Yarns
Guest: Edie Eckman, author of many books, including Beyond the Square Crochet Motifs. Edie shares with us how she started knitting and crocheting and talks with Kathy about her latest book. The first part of the book includes information on how to crochet, and the rest of the book includes many different shaped motifs from circles to triangles and beyond.
Knitalong with Pixie: The state of knitting in France…the state of knitting in France is not as good as it is here. In Paris, there is a shop full of yarn and necessities, along with smaller shops, but when you get outside Paris, it gets dicey. You can find yarn in some of the department store, but the yarn is more like craft store yarn. There are some yarn stores in the malls, but they usually sell knitted clothing as well. The selling of yarn is not their main business.

Leslie Ann Chats with Kathy about Rigid Heddle Weaving
We’re very excited about the Schacht Flip Rigid Heddle loom, and have encouraged people to try it out! It’s a great way to try your hand at weaving.
A rigid heddle loom is the simplest loom, other than weaving in and out every warp. The heddle holds the warp threads up, so you can pass the shuttle through many threads at once instead of one. It’s a very affordable investment in terms of weaving. The Flip loom does fold, so it’s easy to transport and store.
You can create many projects with the rigid heddle loom, and projects that use the stash that many of us already have.
Leslie Ann has used many, many knitting yarns. In fact, she has used, almost exclusively, knitting yarns, specifically hand painted yarns. The hand painted yarns provide interest without a lot of work. Weaving does not use a lot of yarn. Many scarves can be made with just one skein. Misti Alpaca Sock Yarn, Sheep Shop Sheep 3, and many Valley Yarns have made fantastic projects!
Weaving is also incredibly fast. You can set up and complete a scarf is less than 5 hours!

Guest: Carol Sulcoski, co-author of Knit So Fine
Carol has another book in the works: Knitting Socks with Handpainted Yarns. Carol does hand dye yarns as well, so this is a perfect book for her. Often, people have trouble working with hand painted yarns because of the way the colors appear.
Tip: Understand the way the pooling works. It has to do with the size of the tube you are making. You are knitting the sock in a spiral motion, so sometimes the colors match in one spot creating pooling. Carol’s new book helps to solve this “problem.”
Kathy and Carol also discuss fall yarn trends.
