I was excited this yarn was part of the April Anniversary Sale. I love working with single ply yarn, and I've been trying to find a new love ever since Cascade yarns discontinued their soft spun and pastanza lines. Alafosslopi almost fits the bill. The colors are absolutely beautiful and it knits up quickly and smoothly. It is a little corse, but softens up when knit, and I'm sure will become even softer over time. And although corse, it is not unpleasant to work with. I did need to pull some straw from the fibers every once and awhile, but that didn't bother me. Overall, the pros outweigh the cons, and I would definitely buy this yarn again.

I used approximately 14 balls to knit a 4.5'x6' color work afghan.

Made a man's sweater and hat. Unraveled easily while knitting. The odor was so strong my husband would comment on it, even from across the room. Seemed to shrink a bit, even washing it on gentle cycle and cold water. Very careful blocking it. Don't recommend anything but a dry cleaning.

Comments about lafosslopi (Lopi):

This is typical Lopi! Great for felting or use in Icelandic sweaters. You should know that it is a coarser wool so if your skin is sensitive to that, I'd use it for accessories or plan to line it with a fabric such as flannel.

    Comments about lafosslopi (Lopi):

I'm making a great slouchy car coat that called for this yarn. The yarn feels much softer than I anticipated. My one disappointment is the color match to the screen image. I know dye lots vary but what I thought was tomato red came as a darker almost burgundy shade. More sophisticated color perhaps but not what I expected. Also I had to take a skein out into the sunlight to see the highlight blue and gold colors threads that made the screen image so appealing in the first place. I checked colors against two computers, one with a very very good imaging/color processor and on both computers the red was a tomato hue. I bought this on sale but for another purchase of this scale I would order several different colors to be sure of color.

I use lopi yarn to make quick, easy and very warm sweaters for myself and after the winter of 2013 I really appreciate how warm and soft this yarn is.The colors are a nice heather and evenly dyed and I have never found a knot in a skein.

Nice sweater yarn - thick and thin

      Comments about lafosslopi (Lopi):

The skeins I got were a bit thick and thin, which I wasn't expecting. This shouldn't be a huge issue unless the sweater doesn't block well because of it. Other reviews state that the yarn is very coarse and too scratchy to work with; I agree that it is coarse but not overly so. This should be well suited to the outerwear cardigan it's intended for.

I had to rip back a couple places which caused the yarn to shed but it held up well despite that.

The color I ordered was named light Indigo but I feel it's more of a denim/light blue color. Looks great and makes the cardigan feel more Nordic but not what I was expecting.

I knit my first Lopi sweater nearly 30 years ago. I did a 2nd a few years later, and now am making #3. The yarn is just as I remember it, heavy, very, very warm, lovely colors. There are thousands of Lopi patterns out there, and I chose one that is one of the more classic patterns, Brigette. I am making it in a cardigan. I had hoped to work with Lite Lopi this time, but there are not many Lite Lopi patterns available, and even fewer cardigans. A lovely, timeless yarn.

        Comments about lafosslopi (Lopi):

A friend made me a Lopi sweater I consider a gift, an heirloom, and my chilly weather, everyday jacket all at the same time. She chose the 'denim' color blue yarn and made a simple and elegant top down bulky sweater. It looks both traditional, and yet stylish. People are always commenting that it looks great with my jeans, and yet the sweater still maintains a certain degree of respectability I secretly sorta get a kick out of. I don't think of mySELF in terms of respectability. Sure, I try and be good and kind to others, but it's slightly amusing to me that my hip sweater should nonetheless have a better pedigree than its owner. Like it has to 'retire' to the cedar chest at night, you know? I just love it.
