This is great for bodies. I think they should market a coordinating yarn that has somewhat shorter color changes to do the sleeves with. I found the color changes too long for sleeves. I love the resulting sweater, it gets loads of compliments but I broke the yarn a lot for the sleeves to slip in other parts of the skeins and also some solid colors of Harrisville Shetland. I personally love wool and don't mind wearing a turtleneck under scratchier wool. This yarn might soften up however, I haven't washed it yet.

I bought this yarn because of the color to knit socks. I was surprised at the coarse texture but not put off. I soon discovered that it has a very long color repeat which may be an advantage for larger objects but does not work a well for samller items like socks. I ended up with one green sock and one purple sock due to the repeat length. While I'm not bothered by this, you may be if you prefer symmetry.

My biggest complaint came when I ran into a knot. While trying to find a similar color in the transition to continue, I disovered that the transition beyond the knot was running in the opposite direction. I consequently had to begin unwinding the ball from the opposite end to find a color match and get the colors running in the correct direction. This lack of care on the part of the manufacturer is annoying and cost this yarn one star. It is why I called the yarn "user unfriendly".

  • Nice Texture

Cons

  • Heavy On One Color

Best Uses

  • Fair Isle

Comments about Kauni Effekt:

i'm using this to make the beautiful "Anne-Evilla" by Ruth Sorenson. although the yarn feels a bit coarse while knitting, i think it will soften up with the blocking process. the colors are lovely, but i think a bit unbalanced in one colorway i am using. the mauve seems to go on forever. if i had purchased extra yardage, i would have just shortened it. the balance in the black, gray and white is just perfect!

Pros

  • Pretty Colors

Cons

  • Coarse
  • Hay In Yarn
  • Knots
  • Plastic Baling Twine In Y
  • Splits
  • Uneven
  • Unpleasant To The Touch

Best Uses

  • Scarves

Comments about Kauni Effekt:

This is a harsh and unpleasant yarn to use. It had hay and plastic baling twine in the wool it was spun from, and that wool is quite harsh to the touch. The color transitions appear to have been created by spinning different color wools, and they are very well done. I bought it for a specific pattern created by another designer, and the resulting scarf is quite pretty. I've not quite finished it, and can only hope that after washing and using hair conditioner with it, it will soften up a bit.

Wonderful Long Color Repeats

By AriesKnitWit

from PA

About Me Collector, Enthusiast

Pros

  • Beautiful colors
  • Good Weight
  • Nice Texture

Cons

  • Coarse

Best Uses

  • Scarves
  • Shawls

Comments about Kauni Effekt:

I used the pink/mauve/beige colorway in a simple garter stitch shawl. It is beautiful and I get a lot of compliments whenever I wear the shawl. I bought my yarn at the store. I am so glad that it is now online because I have wanted to use it again, I have only washed my shawl once. It did soften up somewhat with washing but not enough for next-to-skin wear. I generally my shawls in the winter over a blouse or shirt so it has not been a concern for me.

Service and delivery comments:

I bought my yarn at the store. The service was exceptional and included recommendations to local (excellent) eateries. I am sad that I do not live close enough to visit often but I make a point of stopping in whenever we visit New England.

      Comments about Kauni Effekt:

I'm doing my first entrelac project using this yarn because it was recommended by the pattern. I love the color, the texture and the weight of the yarn. It is a nice introduction to a yarn I've never used. I'm sure I will be ordering more in the future.

the colors in this yarn are awesome; it is very tiny so it's kind of hard to knit with unless you are great at knitting with small yarn. Project of mine is going slow but end result will be great. Haven't finished it yet so I don't know if it will be soft after blocking; It is a little scratchy right now.
