Valley Yarns Northampton Bulky
Northampton became a fantastic staple so quickly that we knew we had to add a bulky version. It's the same soft wool as Northampton, but in a bulky 4-ply that will fly off your needles.
You may also want to try Northampton which knits at 4.5-5 sts = 1" on US 7-8 needle.

I knit with this yarn every day--literally. The quality is very consistent. The only "knots" that occur are tiny and very tight, can be knitted over, and disappear into the fabric. The yarn is springy and easy on my hands for a bulky yarn.
I've noticed that some colorways are slightly thinner than others (midnight heather is one). Some are softer than others (gold heather comes to mind). And I really wish the colors included yellow and orange. But overall, I consider this yarn to be a durable, reliable workhorse yarn and a great value. So much so that I've got a massive stash of about 80 skeins for charity knitting.

I have used this to make a feather and fan scarf for my daughter and that went fairly well. Then I got some Midnight Heather to make a scarf for her boyfriend. UGH. The color is fine, but the feel is a bit rougher than the cream that I used for her. Also, every skein I used had nasty felted joins that felt like PLASTIC. Not pleasant at all. And annoying to try and knit with them there. I am not sure how this is going to wear - as it feels a bit stiff and manmade instead of a soft and lofty wool.

I used this product to finish a felted purse made from Icelandic yarn my daughter had given me. I needed enough for the bottom and strap of the purse, and one skein was exactly the right amount. It felted enough to look good with the other yarn, and was soft and easy to work with.

This yarn was used for a heavy weight vest. It has a beautiful steel blue color. It knit up very quickly and since I was using a little bit different stitch (bubble stitch); it showed the detail very well. There is nothing as nice as a good quality wool at a grand price

I have recently discovered Valley Yarns products. And the Northampton Bulky is a wonderful yarn to work with. I've used it twice now to make coats. It knits up well in simple or complex patterns and wears well. I would definitely recommend this if you are looking for a bulky yarn.
