    Great Felted Bags

This yarn felts very well, holds its shape and works up quickly. It's my go-to for felted projects.

    Weaving Project

Bought this yarn for weaving project (scarf). I would definitely not recommend this for weaving. It breaks constantly and sheds terribly. Wish I had not bought it.

      Comments about Valley Yarns Berkshire:

I bought the yarn to make a knitted "flower pot". I want to do that, but when I got the yarn and saw the vibrant colors and the softness, I will probably use some of it for other items. The colors I bought will coordinate so there's a lot of choices. I would recommend this yarn. It's soft, pretty and will make up nicely.

Berkshire is a super yarn for cardigans! I bought Dark Heather and I am doing a cabled cardigan. It has great stitch definition and the cables POP! I will be buying more of this.

        Comments about Valley Yarns Berkshire:

I'm using Berkshire for felted slippers, using a pattern that calls for lighter yarn. It took a LOT of experimenting to determine the right gauge, plus I haven't worked before with single-ply yarn. But once I got past my own learning curve, I'm enjoying working with it. The fact that it's single-ply means it requires a bit more careful needle handling, to avoid splitting or snagging the fibers. But it's working fine, and I'm enjoying working with it.

          Comments about Valley Yarns Berkshire:

I knit mittens for charity and have found Berkshire easy to work with and providing a meaty, warm fabric. The alpaca makes it soft and flexible, but does shed a bit, it's only drawback. The halo is soft-looking without being "hairy" and I enjoy working with this yarn.

          Comments about Valley Yarns Berkshire:

Just finished a pair of mittens with this, using #8 circular needles--love them! This is a nice yarn for beefy, warm and soft winter things. The alpaca fiber lends a nice degree of soft halo without being fuzzy, and the wool itself will be warm as well as nicely textured. I liked the way the yarn worked up but noticed some splitting, probably could have used #9s, but that would have altered my gauge. I will block my mittens, just to see what happens.
Love the heft of this yarn!

              Comments about Valley Yarns Berkshire:

I used this yarn for a king sized bed blanket. I wove it at 6 e.p.i. in three long panels that I stitched together after washing. The yarn is surprisingly strong for being so soft and fuzzy. I had no breakage problems. It weaves up fast and is easy to handle. I washed the finished panels in cold water and dried them in a hot drier with about 13% shrinkage. The shirinkage made the blanket denser and the yarn "fuzzed up" some in the washing and drying to make a wonderful, soft texture and a very warm, substantial blanket.
I love this yarn. The only thing that would make it better is more colors!

This is the one yarn that we use for all of our student projects at our Waldorf-inspired Public Charter School in Hawaii. We really appreciate its softness, bold and beautiful color selection, and workability.

I wouldn't describe it as "superbly soft" as I have found there to be some itch to it. I do like how it is knitting up and I thought the price was good. Living in CA I don't know that I need as warm of a sweater as I believe this will turn out to be, but will be nice to have around when I need it.
