By knitting a sweet baby tam, we’ll learn the basics of tam construction. Working within the structure of traditional of Fair Isle tams, we’ll choose peerie patterns, a border pattern and a wheel pattern. We’ll learn several different methods for holding the yarns, tame those twisting yarns, understand yarn dominance, and learn how to avoid bunched fabric. We’ll learn to read colorwork charts, demystifying the wheel chart. You will learn the basic skills to design your own tam.
Skill Level: Intermediate
Date & Time: Friday, 3/18; 10am - 5pm
- 3-5 colors, dk weight wool yarn; 2 oz [50g] of MC and 1-2 oz [25-50g] of other colors. (For example, Reynolds Whiskey)
- 16" circular needles in sizes US 4 [3.5 mm] and US 6 [5.0 mm] and one set double pointed needles US 6 [5.0 mm]
- Tapestry needle
- Stitch markers
- Graph paper and colored pencils if desired.

Prior to the first class, please complete the following: With your choice of Main Color, and smaller needle, cast on 68 sts. Place marker and join for working in the round. K1 P1 rib for 1” [2.5 cm].
