Comments about Valley Yarns Amherst:
I ordered this yarn in burgundy and light grey to knit a Harry Potter scarf for my son-in-law who just finished his PhD at UMassAmherst - was drawn to this yarn as it is "Amherst". The colors I chose are UMass colors. The scarf is almost finished - just have to block and add fringe. I did use almost 8 skeins, but it is still a good buy. I am thrilled w/the scarf so far. I did a test swatch to check for color bleed, but there was none.Definitel recommend this yarn.

Comments about Valley Yarns Amherst:
I'm currently knitting the Point and Line Cardigan by Valley Yarns #281 in the BALSAM color. I'm using bamboo needles and the yarn has left a hint of the color behind on the needles and also on my fingernails as I knit. (This has never happened to me before with any yarns I've used.) I do love the feel of the yarn how it knits up. If after I launder the sweater it continues to bleed, I'll just wear it with dark shirts. It did not wash off the needles. So, just be careful with at least this color.

Comments about Valley Yarns Amherst:
Amherst is my go-to merino worsted. It is super soft and cushy feeling, with not a bit of "itch". I'm surprised that some reviewers consider Amherst a light-bodied worsted. I admit to using more fingering and DK weight yarns than worsted weight, but I consider Amherst to be more full-bodied than most worsteds I have used. I use size 7 needles for hats, sweaters and toys and get nice, even closely packed stitches.

Comments about Valley Yarns Amherst:
I recently fell in love with merino wool and this yarn does not disappoint! I am currently working on a sweater in the charcoal colorway and I believe I'll be wearing this sweater a lot this coming fall, winter and spring. It feels so good next to my skin. I will definitely purchase this yarn again!

Comments about Valley Yarns Amherst:
I agreed with other reviewers that Amherst is not a heavy worsted weight yarn. But it knits very evenly and feels soft and comfortable next to my skin. I would definitely buy Amherst again.

Comments about Valley Yarns Amherst:
I agree that this yarn is very soft and pleasant to work with, but the only way your gauge will be as described is if you like a really really loose stitch. It cannot be used for the pattern I chose it for; I will have to find another with a smaller gauge, and then I won't have enough of the same dye lot.
Comments about Valley Yarns Amherst:
Don't know why they put the last one out four times . . . Yarn is NOT heavy worsted. A better idea of the gauge is 5 st to 1" on a US size 7, 4.5 mm in stockinette. As I knit loosely, you might ge this with a size 8.
Comments about Valley Yarns Amherst:
I just began to work with this yarn. It retains beautiful definition and it's deliciously soft. I do think that it can become splitty if you are not careful or overhandle the yarn, but the yarn is wonderful!. I will definitively be using it again.
Comments about Valley Yarns Amherst:
This yarn is fantastic, so soft, so easy to work with, it doesn't split easily and the stitches are defined gorgeously. I will definitely be purchasing more of this yarn for future projects
