Malabrigo Mecha

Soft and cozy, Malabrigo Mecha is 100% superwash wool. Mecha means "single ply" in Uruguayan Spanish and this bulky weight yarn is one strand of gently twisted wool with a light halo and oodles of color. Mecha is saturated in Malabrigo's signature deep, rich tones. Imagine this sumptuous, squishy wool worked up into a favorite sweater or stunning accessories, all so easy to care for! Made in Peru.

Note: As with all hand-dyed yarns, colors vary from dye lot to dye lot. The yarn color you receive may look different than the color pictured below, and the skeins may vary one from the other even within the same bag. To ensure random color distribution, work from two balls of yarn at once, alternating a few rows from each ball.

Please note: Malabrigo Mecha is produced in dye lots of 10. Any order for more than 10 hanks will be of mixed dye lots.

I love this yarn..chunky, quick knit..knitted scarf frogged and knitted again over a period of four nights. The best thing about this yarn is its SOFTNESS & WARMTH...heaven!! With the polar vortex passing over the Northeast..my scarf has become my constant companion - it's lightweight, soft and so very, very warm.
My biggest frustration is the freaking colors...my colors varied from the pics; they are supposedly produced in dye lots of 10...my orders were from same dye lot - Made a scarf from Candombe and frogged because the last of 3 hanks was so different from the other two (moved it to the middle). I just received the Arco Iris and it is not what I expected...BUT...the warmth makes it forgivable..

I've been a huge fan of Malabrigo yarns. My husband's favorite hat was made last year from Mecha yarn. So this year (2014) I splurged on a number of skeins in different colorways. My intended use was one skein moebius scarves for sale and gifts. The skeins looked different out of the package. I hand ball them so I noticed that there was an unexpected "thick/thin" charateristic to the yarn. And the thin parts are compacted and rough. Then the knots showed up. I hate knots and think they're a major ding to customers. Especially when they show up in order to add a random small poorly spun stretch of yarn at the end to fill their yardage - grrrr....! Not one skein, but all of them! Which means I have to rethink how I'll use these yarns. Coasters? yikes! So one star for good price. One star for great color. That's it. I'll pay extra and stick with Madelinetosh.

    Comments about Malabrigo Mecha:

This yarn is lovely. My only complaint was on my original order I failed to order enough. When I tried reordering I was told the company was out of the yarn and I'd have to wait a while for the rest of the skeins to arrive. My concern now is matching a new batch with the skeins I purchased previously and everything working out. Since it's a verigated color hopefully the new skeins will be okay. I'm growing impatient because it's been almost a month. What I've knit thus far is gorgeous but will the rest of it turn out too?

        Comments about Malabrigo Mecha:

Soft, airy, beautiful single-ply. The variations from the kettle-dye keep it interesting to knit (even though the person I was knitting for refused anything more complicated than a ribbed beanie). One skein was ample for a hat; since I'd bought two, I used the second to make a matching pair of gloves. I'm thrilled to have found a soft single-ply that's superwash! I'll be interested to see how it wears; I'm worried about pilling, but so far so good.

        Comments about Malabrigo Mecha:

This is just gorgeous yarn. I used Cereza for a scarf for a gift. I wish I had paid attention to the note about alternating balls of yarn. After knitting with it I realized that the two hanks were not only different in color but also even a little different in sheen and weight...? I think alternating the balls would have minimized this enough to make it unnoticeable. Next time I'll know better.
In any case, it is beautiful yarn, and I will definitely use it again.

          Comments about Malabrigo Mecha:

I am making a sweater with this yarn. It is soft and feels good to the touch, but is easily split if you are not careful. It is knitting up nicely so far. It is way darker than the samples shown on the website, even in project section. I was hoping for it to be more like what I saw online but I am using it anyway, too much hassle to send it back.

                    Comments about Malabrigo Mecha:

This is the third baby blanket I have knit with this yarn—it is lovely, soft, colorful, and easy to knit. I spit-spliced each color change so that all I had to do at the end was weave in the beginning and ending threads or add pom-poms to the corners. I washed in delicate, cold/cold, and hung it to dry and it goes very drapey extra soft.
