Manos del Uruguay Maxima

Manos Maxima is a single ply 100% merino wool, dyed in the spectacular colors Manos is known for. This soft, worsted weight yarn is perfect for bright, cozy garments, accessories, and projects for the home.

Maxima is hand dyed in large kettles to create a marbleized, subtly striated effect that forms a rich palette of glorious colors. No two skeins are exactly alike and there are no dye lots. Colors may vary greatly.

We recommend buying enough yarn to complete a project. If there is great difference between skeins, we recommend working two rows  from one skein and two rows from another skein to give an overall blended effect. Made in Uruguay.

I use this wool for creating small, beautifully colored, felted handbags. The selection of colors available and the artful combination in a single skein create a lovely, mottled surface that can be left as is, or felted over. One skein provides over 200 yards of fiber, sufficient for a small clutch or handbag. FELTS BEAUTIFULLY!

I love this yarn and have purchased it many times from a local store. Lured by the "bulk" price at Webs, I purchased 6 skeins of various colors to make Christmas gifts--cowls, mittens and scarves. Unfortunately each skein contained "splits", something not found in my previous purchases. Very disappointing!

The dye work is so unique. If you are knitting a larger item that requires multiple hanks, please knit with two hanks at the same time to ensure color variation is evenly distributed. I learned that the hard way!

Comments about Manos del Uruguay Maxima:

I'm very glad I chose this yarn for some long overdue heirloom knitting - a throw blanket. Because its single ply I was concerned it might pill over time but garter stitch seems to reduce the pilling, its holding up well so far. Maxima is very lofty and soft, to quote Stephanie Pearl-McPhee "there is butter scratchier than this" and the colors are beautiful and vibrant making it very suitable for a special project. The price is right too, especially through WEBS!

Lovely yarn to work with. Knits up fast. Don't try to pull up a dropped stitch. The yarn is sticky and on stockinette stitch, it shows that you have repaired it. If you drop a stitch it is best to frog it back.

Comments about Manos del Uruguay Maxima:

The colors of this yarn are very consistent for a kettle dyed yarn. The same lots will knit up with the same colors but the balance will shift from skein to skein as is to be expected with a hand dye. I love this yarn it's hard wearing for a single ply - I have knit sweaters and accessories with it and keep coming back for the durability and the colors.

I love this stuff, the color, the way it knits up, the weight of it. I got it in concord to make some leg warmers for a friend and now I want to keep them for myslef! It has a really nice squichy density, it's super soft, and there is a natural variation in this kettle died yarn that emulates a subtle striping (at least at the scale of leg warmers) that looks really cool. Although it twists a bit, it's really easy to work with.

Great yarn - have made numerous cowls with it. Soft enough to be worn next to the skin, yet lofty & warm enough for the coldest days. Smooth on the needles - no snagging or fuzzing. Service great here!!
