The traditional Japanese method of making exquisite braided cords uses a maru dai, or braiding stand. In this workshop, we will learn to make braided cords on a kumihimo disc, a simple hand-held device. We will explore how color and texture influence the appearance of braids and progress from 8-strand braids to 16-strand braids. Students will learn how to make round braids and, if time permits, we will also explore flat braids.
