I purchased the ball winder and swift in order to facilitate dealing with hanks of yarn. The winder is the same winder used at my local yarn shop and the swift is very similar. You simply attached the items to a sturdy surface (I use my quilting table), load the hanks onto the swift frame, thread the winder and away you go. I turned several hours worth of hand winding into a short one hour session. I also cleaned up several mangled skeins. When you are done, simply unscrew the items and put them away.

I would like to say this will solve the problems of world hunger and bring peace to all, but that would be inaccurate. I will say, instead, that the ball winder and swift are underrated as technological advancements. If you are at the stage in your knitting that you are considering a ball winder and swift, this will certainly fill the bill nicely. They are sturdily constructed and easy to use, thus I anticipate having them for a good long time, which should result in peace in my household if not in the rest of the world. And since you will no longer be standing in line at the local yarn shop waiting to wind your hanks, you will be home in time for lunch or dinner. Overall, an excellent investment.

Just let me say I love WEBS. Every order is always delivered promptly and in good order. Recently, they notified me that there was not enough yarn in a particular dye lot to complete an order. I completely changed colors of yarn. No problem. They filled the order with the new request with a smile on their face and shipped the order to me. All this leaves me wondering if they are open to chatting with me about specific yarn for a project. I bet I can get good advice from them.

After many years of hand-winding yarn using a nostepinne, I decided it was time to invest in a swift/winder combo. I wanted a wooden umbrella-type swift and a sturdy ball winder. I'm very happy with my purchase! The swift is easy to use and well-built, but my only complaint is that the slider adjustment sometimes slips down a bit if I get going too fast. Other than that, the swift is exactly as expected, and the winder is perfect.

Even if I don't purchase hanks of yarn on a regular basis, I'm happy I have the combo. I use the ball winder all the time! Being able to have center pull cakes that stay put instead of balls that stay anywhere but where you want them OR skeins where you're constantly unwrapping the yarn and watching it roll away is a small personal miracle. This combo has helped me go through my stash and use a lot of yarn I didn't have the time or patience to wind by hand. This is exactly what I needed.

I was able to use this as soon as it arrived -- with yarn hanks I purchased at the same time! It saves so much time and my granddaughters love to turn the handle--so my yarn is done twice as fast.
