Knitting Matters 816 My Favorite Handwarmers

Knitting Matters patterns are no longer available for sale.

These wristers feature an easy rib pattern that looks more complicated than it is. It’s fun, easy, and it makes a very warm fabric to keep your hands nice and toasty. Knitted in the round with worsted or dk weight yarn, they work up quickly enough to be almost-last-minute gifts. Note: Model’s hand in this photo is 7½” around palm.

This pair made in ‘Harmony’ by Chameleon Colorworks (50% alpaca, 30% merino, 20% silk), colorway: Bahamas. (224 yd/204 m, 3.5 oz/100g)
Sizes: One size that fits most women’s hands. The elasticity of the rib pattern allows a good fit for sizes from 6½ to 9” (16 to 23 cm). Measurements are for circumference around palm (excluding thumb).
Gauge: 35 sts per 4” (10 cm) in pattern stitch. As always, do a swatch to ensure success!
Yarn: 175 yds of worsted or dk weight yarn. (Note that the ribbed pattern stitch contracts and you get a tighter
gauge than you would if you knitted worsted weight yarn in stockinette stitch.)
Needles: Set of 5 size 5 US (3.75 mm) double points (or size YOU need to get gauge). (You could use a long circular needle instead of the double points if you know how to use the magic loop method.) Optional: double point needles 2 sizes smaller than your main needles to use for the last few rounds if you want to make the top of the hand a bit tighter.
Notions: 2 stitch markers, scissors, tapestry needle, 8” piece of contrast color waste yarn to hold gusset sts. And
don’t forget to grab a nice cup of tea or coffee for a cozy knitting session!
