I came to the Ultra Alpaca line with some Ultra Alpaca Light that I bought on sale. I liked working with the Light so well, that when I had a shawl pattern I wanted to make up I went for the Fine.
I'm very pleased. The hand feel is a little different than the Light. The addition of Nylon I think actually helps at this weight. There is almost no shedding. Which is great. The last hank of straight alpaca I had attached everything I had it stashed next to. I like a yarn that plays well with others.
Fine has nice stitch definition. Which is very important in the projects I make. I had tried this particular shawl in two other yarns, and hadn't been happy with the results.
All in all I can't wait for fall. I'm going to have a lovely new shawl to wrap up in.
Alpaca ultra fine has become a go to yarn for me.

I used Ultra Alpaca Fine to make a pair of opera length gloves. Knitting with the yarn was relatively easy (some splitting) and it was pretty forgiving of mistakes. However, while the yarn does not seem itchy when being knitted, I was disappointed to find the finished product was too rough and itchy to wear. I do not usually have a problem with fabrics being itchy, and I have successfully worn other items made with alpaca. Note that I also found Ultra Alpaca (DK weight, used to make a sweater) to be similarly coarse and itchy when finished. The finished products are beautiful, but I wouldn't recommend this yarn for projects that will be worn next to the skin.

Comments about Berroco Ultra Alpaca Fine:
I used this yarn in a sweater, which was slow going because it's a relatively fine gauge. But the sweater turned out beautifully--it holds its shape well and the gauge is nice. The only problem is that the yarn does shed some; I'm hoping that after it's washed it'll shed less.

I'm knitting a vintage-style sweater with this yarn and it suits perfectly. The yardage is great - less joins and makes for a very nice quality item at a price that's affordable.

Comments about Berroco Ultra Alpaca Fine:
I am always on the lookout for fingering weight yarns to use in my antique circular sock knitting machine. Berrocco's ultra Alpaca fin has just enough alpaca in it for warmth and softness, and enough polyester and regular wool for strength. I have found that yarns with a higher alpaca content do not wear well when used for socks. This yarn flows through my machine easily, and has a good amount of elasticity. It does tend to develop fuzz with machine washing (I never put my wool socks in the dryer, no matter what the label says), but seems to retain its shape and elasticity. The price can't be beat, either: I can usually knit three pairs of socks out of two skeins, as long as I use a contrasting heel and toe in a different yarn.

Comments about Berroco Ultra Alpaca Fine:
I would say I'm a novice knitter and this is the first time I've tried to knit a lace scarf. This yarn is very easy to work with, once you get the hang of knitting with such thin yarn. The scarf is turning out beautifully, mainly because of the yarn, not my knitting skills.

Comments about Berroco Ultra Alpaca Fine:
Started a pair of gloves but have abandoned finishing them with this yarn. I am sad about this as I loved the look and feel of the yarn, but it splits too darn much, making it difficult to pick up stitches. In fact, it even untwisted doing doing the cast on, even though I tried several different ways! The splitting also made it difficult to knit two stitches together.

I used this product to make outfits for small Swedish elves, called Tomtens. I like the wight of the yarn as it makes it possible to knit the tunic, pants and hat using a size 0 needle and not become too bulky. I have completed four outfits and still going.

Comments about Berroco Ultra Alpaca Fine:
This yarn comes in beautiful colors and it knits up quickly but beware - it is really splitty. I hardly ever call a yarn splitty but this one deserves the label. It has also very little elasticity, in fact, almost none. That being said, it creates a warm, very light and airy fabric. It is not coarse and I wear it next to skin. Great for stockinette, stripes and some minor cables - everything else very textured will not show well due to the fluff and long alpaca hair. If you want to do some color work I recommend to use colors that are distinct from each other, minor color differences will not show clearly, but this is also dependent on the pattern.

Comments about Berroco Ultra Alpaca Fine:
I used this sweet yarn for a pair of socks and loved the texture, both while I was knitting and the finished product. The subtle color highlights [I bought the blueberry mix] give it a little more interest than a plain solid. Love that it's machine washable, too. Really a nice little yarn, with a great price; I'll definitely use it again.
