This is a beautiful classic yarn, however, it is not that easy to handle. The stitches can be very uneven and garments require careful blocking when finished. The fabric is slippery and easily slides off needles so I had to be very careful when knitting my aran spring aran sweater with it. This yarn has no spring whatsoever, so choose an appropriate project. The drape is long and loose, even when knitted at 6 stitches to the inch. This yarn almost needs cables, aran patterning or ribs to give it something to do because even though it is a light weight, it hangs off your body and will show every bump and bulge you have because it is a thin fabric with a lot of sheen. Don't get me wrong, this yarn works up to a GORGEOUS product, but you have to be discerning about your design. The appearance of the uneven stitches definitely improves greatly after blocking and steaming. Drape, drape, drape -- very sexy and oh so comfortable to wear, but absolutely no spring of any kind so you will get exactly what you knit. This yarn is unforgiving if you make mistakes, knit unevenlyl, or choose a design that requires structure over drape. Colors are drop dead gorgeous. I'd be interested to see what happens to this yarn if I knitted it double stranded.

Comments about Blue Sky Alpacas Alpaca Silk:

This yarn is heavenly - soft and shiny, easy to work with, and not one knot in any of the skeins so far. My pet peeve is knots in the middle of skeins. I plan to get more for other projects.

Comments about Blue Sky Alpacas Alpaca Silk:

I'd been eyeing this yarn for at least two years because it sounded perfect ... and then I found a gorgeous sweater pattern calling for it. (Rose Quartz Pullover, Robyn Chachula). With about 50 yards of trim to go, I couldn't be more pleased.

As others have noted, it's a bit slippery and can catch if you aren't careful -- but I don't think you purchase a luxury yarn like this without expecting to treat it gently all along. (I had to rip out several rows to fix mistakes, which worried me at first... but it unwound cleanly and reworked without any difficulty. You can't tell it's been reworked at all.) And because of the fiber blend, it's all about drape -- if you want spring, use a pattern with inherent springiness.

Bottom line: this is an incredible yarn! Sublimely soft, glowing, saturated with color, terrific stitch definition. I wish I never had to work with anything less perfect. (And note to Blue Sky Alpacas: please, please give us a handpainted, multicolored version!)

Comments about Blue Sky Alpacas Alpaca Silk:

I used this to make infinity scarves for my sisters, both of whom have a sensitivity to lanolin--and they love them. It has a lovely a rich feel and just enough "give" to be perfect for the finished piece (or any project that requires a soft drape).

I found it a little slick to work with (not really surprising) and it slipped off of my needles a few times. I had to resuce it pretty quickly or risk a dropped stitch. My skill level is somewhere between novice and intermediate so a more experienced knitter may not experience the same.

Otherwise, I loved working with it and would recommend it highly.

I'd read a review that this yarn didn't shed, so I excitedly got it for a crescent shawl for my niece. It's to be worn over a holiday dress with a black velvet top. I shouldn't be surprised that this alpaca sheds, and this does indeed shed. It's very nice to work with, and very soft after blocking.
