Cascade Yarns Eco +

Cascade Eco Plus is the same yarn as Ecological Wool, but it is commercially dyed in many vibrant colors. Because of the tremendous yardage, you will be able to finish a beautiful project (sweater or even a blanket) at a great price! Eco + also felts like a dream.  Made in Peru.

Eco Wool is one of my favorite yarns. It is so versatile. Because it is a 2-ply worsted-spun yarn, it can be knit at several gauges. You can use it for an Aran sweater on a size 8 needle, or go all the way up to a fairly loose, drapey knit on a size 11. It is probably most at home on about a size 10 needle. The yarn has good stitch definition as well as being soft and well-behaved, so it's great for cables. The downside is that because it's not a true bulky-weight yarn, it tends to compact upon knitting. However, it can be doubled to make a firm fabric. The natural shades of Eco Wool are a sensual delight since they have a great clean lanolin smell, and in addition to looking and feeling great, the lanolin makes your hands soft while you work. When knitters talk about being overcome by yarn fumes, this is what we mean. It's addictive! The Eco Plus has all this plus some stunning, mostly heathered, dyed shades. At nearly 500 yards per skein, it's a great value.

When knit at recommended gauge, seriously stretches when washed so be wary. Wash aggressively block your swatch and knit to it. Then block finished garment to size. (Knit to fit does NOT work with this yarn.) Many dark colours bleed profusely. Wash yarn first (I used synthrapol) if used with light colours in same garment. Otherwise, a really nice yarn.

Comments about Cascade Yarns Eco +:

I am finishing a swing coat in liberty heather. It is just like I envisioned it would be. Soft, but holding its shape well, gives depth to stitches, and since they are HUGE skeins, there are very few splices, and they are easy to do. Can't wait to wear it. This is the only yarn I have used that is similar to worsted yarn I bought in Donegal Ireland. It was spun from their original type wool from local sheep. Just a little "edgy", maybe not next to your neck but beautiful stitch definition, wears like iron, and holds its shape. Now, they need to make a tweed yarn, the Ultimate.

I love cascade yarns! Always consistent quality, rich colors that are much more beautiful in person. I use cascade exclusively for my thrummed and felted mittens. The yarn is very durable. I wear my mittens everyday even doing chores. They get wet and dirty and they wash up wonderfully.

I bought this again because I knitted a zip-front cardigan from it several years ago and it has held up wonderfully. I am going to make another cardigan because this is a good workhorse yarn. It does not snag or pill and garments retain their shape well. It is not an overly soft yarn, but is good for all but the most sensitive to wool. Being wool, it also seems to repel dirt and washes well by hand.

Comments about Cascade Yarns Eco +:

So far I've used this yarn to make a couple of sweaters. It knits up very quickly. The texture is lovely and soft, and it traps heat well. I have only noticed shedding with this yarn while it's wet and being handled for blocking. This yarn is a great value for its price. I will buy it again!

Perfect yarn for warm comfortable sweaters; shows up large scale stitch work and cabling very well, but the heather tones would have enough interest to carry a plain sweater. I did a simple basketweave pattern and it looked awesome.
