Elsebeth Lavold Hempathy

Hemp is an incredible plant fiber that is valued for its strength and durability. It won’t wear out - instead, it will wear in - getting better with age. It will retain color better than any other fiber, including cotton, due to its porous nature which also allows the fiber to breathe. Blended with cotton and modal, Elsebeth Lavold Hempathy is a slightly textured yarn that is a WEBS favorite. Made in Italy.

Have made a couple of top-down summer sweaters with this lovely drapey yarn: Heliotropic Pullover by Mercedes Tarasovich-Clark and Buttercup by Heidi Kirrmaier. Lovely yarn for both patterns. Knits quickly and the resulting drape is hard to beat. Only con would be repeated knots per skein. Didn't experience that in every skein, but the last four of the 16 skeins purchased.

I am using this yarn to knit Heidi Kirmaier's "Buttercup". I like the pattern, but the yarn does show some uneven stitches in my knitting. It is also very "splitty" so I have to watch my stitches as I am knitting. I do like the texture of the yarn.

    Comments about Elsebeth Lavold Hempathy:

I was skeptical about this yarn at first. It knits up really unevenly and ugly. But after machine washing and drying, it is gorgeous!

Although it is listed as a DK weight, it is on the light side and could be used as a sport weight.

I used this to make a beautiful waistcoat. It lays beautiful and was a dream to crochet with. The hook glides easily through the stitches.

          Comments about Elsebeth Lavold Hempathy:

I used this for a hat pattern that called for 100% cotton. It is not quite as soft as cotton, but has better drape. I understand it will get softer with washing. I tend to crochet loosely and used a large hook. The threads separating were an occasional problem - could be more so for someone who crochets tightly.

I bought this to make the Linum Tee. So far, it's going well. A little hard on the hands but well worth it for the really beautiful drape it has. I got the denim color and when I washed my swatch it faded a slight bit...very subtle and I really liked it. It does show every little mistake, though, so if your tension is a little off, like mine is, it will show. Hopefully that will even out over washing / blocking. All in all, a very nice yarn.

I'm totally in love with this yarn. It splits a little, you have to just be careful and pay a little attention. I'm making an A-line tank, and it is just turning out beautifully. Love the drape!

i love this yarn. very soft, easy to work with, made a gorgeous shrug for my granddaughter. such a pretty color, called summer blue. I love the fibers, am a great supporter of hemp products. The only con was that it is a lighter weight yarn and so i needed to use a smaller hook and a little more work. i highly reccomend Hempathy yarn.
