Malabrigo Worsted

Hand Dyed incredible soft Merino wool. With the subtle variations in color and texture only hand dyed yarns have and all the sensuality of a good handspun yarn.

Malabrigo Worsted is a gorgeous, pure merino wool. Malabrigo is unbelievable - the colors are spectactular, the feel is incredibly soft. You won't believe how amazing Malabrigo is until you feel it!

Note: As with all hand-dyed yarns, colors vary from dye lot to dye lot. The yarn color you receive may look different than the color pictured below, and the skeins may vary one from the other even within the same bag. To ensure random color distribution, work from two balls of yarn at once, alternating a few rows from each ball.

Please note: Malabrigo Worsted is produced in dye lots of 10. Any order for more than 10 skeins will be of mixed dye lots.

I fully concur with all the previous reviewers, and just add a few lines here on the felting quality of this yarn. Knitting it, initially, you're struck by how soft and pleasant this yarn is, it's beautiful drape, and luxurious feel. I just happened to have this pattern for a felted hat, so I wanted to give it a go, to see if I can figure it out, and if this yarn works well for felting. It took a few rather aggressive rounds in the washer and dryer before the hat had shrunk to its intended size, but what a nice hat it is! The softness of the yarn carried beautifully through, and the colors blended well. There are easier yarns that felt much more willingly, I'm sure, but if you want to add softness and delightful hand-dyed colors to your project, this is where I'd start.

This yarn is incredibly soft but the pilling and shedding was excessive. I returned it after knitting the back of a sweater. This knitted piece almost appeared matted. I have seen pictures of the knitted garments in this wool and the amount of pilling was dramatic so this was not an isolated case. Best use is for felting

Comments about Malabrigo Worsted:

This is gorgeous yarn and incredibly soft. I'm making a Celtic cable blanket, and for such a dark color (violetas), the stitch definition is quite good. My biggest concern is that the yarn is spun so unevenly that some stitches look like flaws, especially because the thicker spots also absorbed the dye more deeply and so stand out in the row like a sore thumb. I actually had one 20" stretch that was so thin it could only be called thread, and I had to knit doubled with a normal thickness to use it at all. Maybe this is normal in handspun yarn (this is my first) but I didn't expect the variations to be so extreme. Although I love the feel and the vibrant color, I would only buy this yarn again if the project lent itself to uneven textures.

      Comments about Malabrigo Worsted:

I'm using it doubled to knit the Garter Squish (on Ravelry). It's perfect for this project: colors work well together, knits up quickly and the 'squishy factor' is superb.

        Comments about Malabrigo Worsted:

This yarn felts quickly and is great if that is what you are using it for. On the other hand, because it shrinks so readily, one needs to be careful when washing garments. Fairly good color choices from bright to muted.

Made a poncho for a little girl a year or so ago from Malabrigo. Beautiful. Now that she's outgrown it, she wants another. Of course, I chose the same yarn in a different color. The drape is extraordinary.

Love Malabrigo yarns - use worsted weight mainly for fingerless gloves. Beautiful colors and soft, luxurious yarns. Have also used other weights like Rasta and love it also.

                Comments about Malabrigo Worsted:

This yarn has varying thickness from thin to quite bulky in places. It doesn't matter in the pattern I am using it for, but might for others. It is best for stitch patterns that emphasize texture. It is very soft and the color shades of dark violet are very attractive.

                    Comments about Malabrigo Worsted:

I bought a linen stitch scarf kit from another source that contained Malabrigo Worsted Merino. I liked the yarn very much, but found the palette in the kit wanting so I searched the Internet for more colors. This yarn has a lovely hand and beautiful colors. As I worked with it I started to think of other projects for it that require a soft hand: toddler sweaters, hats, other scarves. I design many of the items I knit and redesign most of the patterns I use so I was happy to find a versatile and good quality merino yarn. Most of the knitters I know can always think of improvements!

This worsted yarn has great stitch definition, but it does get fuzzy (felts) easily. Still, it's so warm and versatile. I've used it for many projects, and will continue!
