I was excited this yarn was part of the April Anniversary Sale. I love working with single ply yarn, and I've been trying to find a new love ever since Cascade yarns discontinued their soft spun and pastanza lines. Alafosslopi almost fits the bill. The colors are absolutely beautiful and it knits up quickly and smoothly. It is a little corse, but softens up when knit, and I'm sure will become even softer over time. And although corse, it is not unpleasant to work with. I did need to pull some straw from the fibers every once and awhile, but that didn't bother me. Overall, the pros outweigh the cons, and I would definitely buy this yarn again.

I used approximately 14 balls to knit a 4.5'x6' color work afghan.

    Comments about lafosslopi (Lopi):

I bought several colors of this for a thick striped scarf for my boyfriend. He loves it. I held the strands double so it was really thick and warm. Felt a little bit scratchy after knitting it up, but here is what will really make the finished product a winner- add lanolin and a bit of white vinegar to when you hand wash it. It comes out smooth, shiny, and soft. I highly recommend this yarn for a quality garment that will last decades if taken care of properly. Sheds especially while winding it into balls, but after the first wash that was not a problem anymore. Give it a try! The colors are beautiful and earthy.

The very coarseness of this yarn is what makes it felt so nicely and have such durability in terms of slippers. My go to yarn for these projects. Would use it only for the above or outer sweaters and/or jackets/ coats

Lopi Yarn keeps you very warm without sweating. Easy to clean in dryer with Woolite Dry Cleaner - doesn't usually need it. Fantastic yarn to knit with. Makes great hats. Usually wear sweater with turtleneck and very comfortable. It is a stiff yarn but so nice.

          Comments about lafosslopi (Lopi):

This is my go to yarn for bulky Icelandic sweaters. Admittedly it's too itchy and coarse for next to the skin garments; but it is easy to work with, knits up quickly, and produces a sweater that is warm and near windproof. The colors are lovely. Unlike a lot of single ply yarns, it has minimal pilling or shedding; I have Lopi sweaters that are 20 years old and still look great.
