First to the person who returned this without trying, it is a great yarn and softens while you knit with it. In fact if you had just "kneaded" the skein with your hands you would have discovered this! The lanolin works through the yarn making it very soft. I made the Coat :Nell" from Kim Hargreaves book Amber in the natural color and every where I go I get compliments. The colors don't appear true on my monitor from this website! I was lucky and able to buy it at my LYS but I can certainly recommend this yarn especially for jacket type projects. M

I couldn't believe how coarse this yarn felt -- maybe I'm spoilt? -- so I returned it. I couldn't imagine knitting with it, let alone wearing it.

I loved using this yarn. It never split, or raveled, instead was soft and held it's shape.

I look forward to using this yarn on future projects.

I knitted the Kettlewell sweater from the British Sheep Breeds collection and it is just beautiful. I added a few inches to the length because I like longer sweaters and needed to unravel some of the yarn. Knitting with it a second time it looked like new. I can't wait to use this yarn again, but in a different color. I also love the naturalness of the yarn and the wonderful smell.

Comments about Rowan PurelifeBritish Sheep Breeds Chunky Undyed:

This is one of the nicest yarns ever, well worth the price! I am a novice knitter but this is the third blanket I have knitted and so far I think it is going to be the best. The yarn would be perfect for sweaters and other wearable articles. This yarn is a real joy to knit with and I like knowing that I am using a yarn with a wonderful history behind it. The colors are so beautiful that it was very hard to choose which one to get. I am using the Shetland Moorit, which is good medium brown. I may have to order more in other colors...I'll be sad when this one is done!
It even smells incredible to me!

I had thought it would be a bulkier yarn but was happy working with it and liked the end result. It made into a lovely wrap for chilly evenings. I likes bundeling up in it to knit. Melanie ([@] / [@])

Comments about Rowan PurelifeBritish Sheep Breeds Chunky Undyed:

This is a great yarn. I am using the Black Welsh for the Box Top coat by Cheryl Oberle. There are many reasons to choose different wools; not all are good for the same thing. A soft, next-to-the-skin yarn may not hold up well for an outer coat.

I admit that I love texture in a wool yarn, which is why I often knit vests and outer garments with wool. I also appreciate that distinct sheep breeds have different characteristics.

This is a yarn with sophisticated but rustic appeal. While the Welsh does soften up somewhat as handled, it is springy and seems to maintain its structural qualities - which is needed for this jacket.

I believe it would also make a superb Einstein coat (Sally Melville) and probably a great Adult Surprise coat - anything where structure is desired. The color of the Black Welsh is amazing - brown with a lot of depth.

This is a solid, natural wool that knits up beautifully. If you like the feel of wools that have not been over-treated, have that wonderful feel of lanolin in it, and are undyed, this is the wool for you. It has a firm hand, and this is a wool for garments that will last for a very long time. I bought the mid-brown Jacab and like the color; I'm knitting a coat with it. I want to try the Black Welsh next.

I 'm happy to see natural sheep breeds getting their due. Knit 1 sweater from Grey Suffolk - love it. Bought the Black Welsh and dark grey Jecob to do 2 more. This is "real wool for real sweaters"! They'll last a life time. Just need to get the Shetland and Leicester now.

I bought the shetland moorit, and while it is a little rough, it's still nice to knit with. Very springy, perfect for the jacket I'm making. BUT, it smells like it came straight from the farm. Very sheep-y, hopefully it can be soaked out...
