Regia 4-Ply Tweed

4 ply incorporates bright dots of color on gorgeous heathery backgrounds for a sock that looks like your favorite fisherman's sweater. This hard wearing yarn retains its shape and can simply be thrown in the washer when you're ready. Two balls makes a pair of socks.

      Interestingly mixed on this one

      By Captain Hook

      from Olympia, WA

      Comments about Regia 4-Ply Tweed:

I, the German sock yarn addict, find myself interestingly mixed on this yarn. At first I thought it wasn't up to the quality of the usual Regia sock yarns. The twist felt funny. Or something.

Couldn't put my finger on it till getting well into an entrelac-in-the-round shawl in two colors (anthracite and grey) of the 6-ply Regia Tweed (not this product, but very similar; two more plys).

Then I realized what felt different: guard hairs. Lots n lots of guard hairs!

Not a bad thing, since they are very soft staple, quite appropriate for a "fisherman's heather" type yarn. It's just that I am wired to expect all Regia yarns to have that dense, puffy, smooth quality. I find even nice guard hairs to be kinda...messy and imprecise. I'm on the precise-quant-data-and-engineering side of the spectrum, and I like my sockenwolle to have the smoother, slightly springier finish.

The 4-ply Tweed (this product) struck me similarly. Like the 6-ply it produces exquisitely soft stitches with lovely definition and springiness, subtle coloring, and a gorgeous hand. I have no doubt that it will wash and wear well.

I couldn't bring myself to give this yarn four stars on the basis of personal taste on the matter of guard hairs. :D It really is lovely.

I used this for a pair of socks (WIP), but the yarn is soft and easy to work with. The socks feel like they will be very sturdy!

Majority of knit projects are socks, which texture of yarn, color, ease of use, durablility & quality of materials is very important to me. I have been & am totally satisfied with Regia yarn products.
