I used this to make a pullover for myself. Very comfortable to wear. Worked up very fast & even on size7 needles. Was not looking for heavy worsted category and did not realize that's how it was rated. Has a lovely hand, but did have a tendency to split, but have found that true of several Valley brand yarns.

This yarn is beautiful and glossy, no doubt about it. However, I don't think it is a heavy worsted. I was unable to make gauge with size 8 needles, and barely was able to make gauge with size 9 needles. The resulting weave was a little too loose to my liking, making it susceptible to splitting while knitting and snagging while wearing. I would like to see more heft and twist to this yarn to really make it a heavy worsted yarn.

Comments about Valley Yarns Colrain:
I am halfway through knitting a textured cardigan with it. Tahki's Pressed Flowers cardigan downloaded from yarn.com I dislike knitting with cotton because the color cracks at points of wear and the surface gets hairy with short staple fibers if washed several times. So I found a good alternative in Colrain. However, I am not wild about the color palette it comes in. I am using the grey olive color. there is zero olive in it. It is like a pale sagey silvery greyed color. There is no good green in the palette. I had tried a sample of greyteal but this was more like a deep turquoise blue--stress on the blue.
I love Tencel fiber and would use Colrain more if there were a better selection of colors that are not dark and darker. I have a color calibrated monitor, but the colors are always darker in the yarn than the photos shown on webs site.

Comments about Valley Yarns Colrain:
Colrain is my go-to yarn for almost anything, but especially hats. The wool makes it warm, the tencel makes it light, and the colors are just right in brights or neutrals. I never worry about it getting too wet and heavy in the snow/rain, it's easy to clean, and if it's misplaced, well, it's plenty affordable to knit up another.

Comments about Valley Yarns Colrain:
I crocheted a shrug with this in whipple blue, color is best described as a Tiffany Blue, it turned out beautifully. I loved the feel and softness of the yarn as I worked with it. I love the shimmer or soft sheen. The weight of the yarn is quite nice while wearing it, feels warm but breathable. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is that every ball I used had a thinned spot in the yarn where I had to snip it out and rejoin - could've just been a bad batch - otherwise this is a perfect yarn. I might have to get more for another sweater in the future.
