Valley Yarns Goshen

We fell in love with this yarn at first sight. Valley Yarns Goshen is very soft! The Modal® and silk not only add a slight sheen, but also durablity. Garments will not pill and will stand the test of time. Made in Peru.

I just finished a sweater for my daughter in law and a dress for my youngest granddaughter. What a delightful yarn to work with. Feels great in the hand and knits up beautifully. Love the light sheen the yarn gives to fabrics. Have now used 15+ balls of this yarn and have found not 1 knot in the skein. This is becoming my new favorite yarn. Hope it's not discontinued and that they add more colors.

Found it difficult to use. Slippery and quite slick, very difficult to maintain even tension on straight single points at recommended size. Size 8 was sloppy and irregular; size 7 achieved 4.5 sts to inch, but still rather sloppy. My only resolution was to knit circularly using SIZE 6 wood tip needle to help control tension and achieve a more balanced fabric swatch with a gauge of about 5 sts and 6 rows to the inch. Highly recommend using smaller needles than size 8 recommended to achieve a better hand in the fabric.

      Comments about Valley Yarns Goshen:

I've used this yarn many times now - Ravelry.com's Bamboo Shell, Abalone, Summer Cowl Shell, and others - and have grown more and more impressed with the durability, the versatility, the drape, the feel, and the ease with which this yarn can be used in most patterns. AND it is economically priced! That in itself is a selling point. This yarn is considered a 'luxury' yarn to my little budget (I have a college student on my payroll-ha!ha!) and I am so thankful that I've finally found something that works well on all fronts for me and my projects. I would love to buy the Quince, Madeline's, Shubui's, and other special yarns but right now they are not within my range. This Goshen Valley Yarns is a steal and I keep buying different colors in batches of 4 every time I get a little bit of money to stash away for future projects.

      Service and delivery comments:

I LOVE getting my yarn in the mail and it always seems to come sooner than I expected it! It's like Christmas when I see that little envelope shoved in my box. They are packaged so that every time I get something, I have to open it right away and touch the yarn and look at the beautiful colors. Shipping is reasonable and for that I am grateful, there's nothing so disconcerting then to find a great deal and end up paying half of the cost of your purchase in shipping. Thank you.

This yarn is a joy to knit. It holds its shape after hand washing and gets even softer. It does take a while to air dry, though.

            Comments about Valley Yarns Goshen:

I used this yarn for the first time when I made the Bamboo Shell by Cheryl Andrews and it was fab-u! The drape was just right and there was enough give with the yarn so that my girls didn't look smashed into my tank. Since that first shell, I've used it for the Abalone by Hedgehog Fibres and although I had to use googobs of the yarn the flow of the knitted project could not have been achieved without Goshen. At this point, my obsession with Goshen continued and I knit the Cowl Shell by Myrna Batten and was again amazed at the many versatile uses of this yarn! As with the Abalone (which I made extra long AND placed a yarn over'd design down the back), the M.Batten Cowl Shell was the perfect compliment for the natural drape and of course, the color! Oh the color was wonderful! Vibrant and didn't fade with washing (Bamboo Shell has been washed soooo many times). I can definitely affirm that Goshen does not pill and it knits up so well -- I mean it really feels good in your fingers! Great yarn and best of all it fit my budget (what budget, right?). Goshen is the MOST reasonably priced yarn of quality and I would HIGHLY recommend everyone use it for their summer fashion and accessories!
