This Italian import combines the softness of pima cotton with the beauty and drape of bamboo fiber. Valley Yarns Southwick is a joy to knit, and the feel improves even more once finished. This yarn is perfect for spring and summer knitting! It's great for basics as well as more intricate stitches.   Made in Italy.

I found this yarn needs a smaller needle than the label recommends. I used a size 4 needle, and it behaved much better than when I used a size 6. It also needs a firm tension to keep the twist from loosening, and the yarn gets messy if you have unknit stitches.

The sheen is very nice however, and I would use it for dressy things like special occasion wear.

Worsted weight my foot!

    Comments about Valley Yarns Southwick:

I am a veteran knitter. I know my yarns. This is not worsted weight. Sorry. I also ordered a DK weight at the same time which was actually THICKER than this "worsted weight" yarn. When I returned with my comment I got the response that "it does knit up with a stitch gauge of 5 stitches per inch on US 5-7 needle, which is the typical gauge for a worsted weight yarn." Sure, maybe if your tension is that of a toddler....

    Comments about Valley Yarns Southwick:

I loved this yarn for its beautiful shine. It knitted evenly. I used my Knitters Pride no.5 circular needles. I mentioned it snags, but only if you are not careful. Because it's made from strands of fine threads, you need to make sure you catch the whole strand. The weight of my Throw is somewhat heavier than I anticipate which is good thing. I would definitely use this yarn again and would recommend it. Also the price great for such a beautiful silk looking yarn.

I bought this yarn to knit a shawl for my sister who lives in southern California. I wanted something soft and drapey that was not wool. I think it will keep her warm without being scratchy or heavy.

This will be a sleeveless sweater for my adult daughter, living in Florida, once I find an appropriate pattern for this weight yarn. The pattern I was making required a #4 weight; this yarn is a DK weight and much too fine for the filet pattern I was trying to work.

I am making a throw and it looks so soft and comfortable that it is ideal for that purpose. I am following your pattern for the third one I have made, all given as gifts.

Your delivery comes quickly and in good shape. You do not waste over-packaging. I can quickly open the package which is an excellent asset for those of us oldsters who have arthritis.

This cotton blend has all the best qualities of cotton without the stiffness. Great stitch definition, good drape, does not stretch out of control from blocking, and feels so soft next to skin. There's even a little hint of sheen. I wish I bought more during Steve's deal of the day.

I used this to make a shell - it feels wonderful running thru my hands while knitting. Feels great against my skin when wearing. Looks crisp and clean - great stitch definition - and washes up just like new. This is my first experience with bamboo/cotton blend and it will NOT be my last with Southwick

          Comments about Valley Yarns Southwick:

This is a yarn I have used again and again for a baby dress pattern. I have used multiple colors and have always found them to be true to the pictures. The customer service has been great too. The only reason I give it four stars is because it does split easily. But if you are aware of that, you can quickly learn to work with this yarn, and I bet you'll enjoy it as much as I do!
