Melissa Morgan-Oakes was taught to crochet, tat, and sew at an early age by women who encouraged her to work without commercial patterns. Her award-winning sewn and crocheted children's garments occupied much of her spare time during her children's early years. Looking for new inroads in textile and fiber art, she taught herself to spin and knit, designing patterns for her handspun yarns as she went. She brings the unique perspective of a self-taught knitter to her energetic and enjoyable classes. She lives on her small chicken farm in Western Massachusetts with her husband, a very large dog, a very small dog. Melissa is the author of 2-at-a-Time Socks, Toe-Up 2-at-a-Time Socks, and Teach Yourself Visually Circular Knitting.
