In addition to aiding in color selection, it was also helpful for me to feel the yarn to get an idea of how a finished garment made from the yarn would feel.

The sample piece of thread is quite long and gives you a good sense of how it will look and behave in the project. The problem is that the cones that I ordered were many shades different than these color cards indicated. I realize there are natural variations in dye lots, but this was extreme. My monitor gave a better sense of the cone yarn color.

Comments about Valley Yarns Color Cards:
I love having color cards! They are always a far more accurate indicator of the yarn color - regardless of dye lot - than any picture on the screen. I find them inspirational when choosing a color for a project.
