KNITTING FOR THOSE LAZY, HAZY, CRAZY DAYS OF SUMMER
2-AT-A-TIME SOCKS
Why two socks at once? Well, why not? Think about it. Two socks started and finished at the same time. They’re still portable, still fun, but no “second sock syndrome”. For those who don’t know about this knitting curse, it’s what happens when a knitter completes her first sock and thinks “Oh, no. Now I have to make another one…” Often, she rises from her seat, sticks the finished sock and the yarn for its ne’er-to-be-knit pal in a bag and returns it to stash or an unfinished project bin. Don’t let this happen to you! Take this class!
Skill Level: Experienced sock knitters only, please.

Each month for 12 months, using one of the wonderful books from The Great American Afghan series, you will tackle a square of your choice, and, in the process, learn many new techniques. There are 25 12 inch squares to choose from, many of them designed by some of the most well-known knitters of today: Sally Melville, Meg Swansen, Nancy Bush, Lili Chin, Melissa Leapman and Nicky Epstein, just to name a few. The techniques you will learn include chart reading, Entrelac, appliqué, cables, traveling stitches, bobbles, Aran stitches, I-cord, Estonian button stitch, lace and several amazing textural motifs. BASIC TOE-UP SOCKS
Socks are hot, and everyone is making them, but every sock knitter seems to have her (his) favorite method. Since most socks are knitted from the cuff down, toe-up socks are a true knitting adventure that you should add to your sock knitting repertoire. Why knit from the toe up? Well, if you’re not sure you have enough yarn for a pair, and you start at the toe, you can use the yarn you have to knit the foot and the heel of each sock, then divide the yarn you have left in half and work on the leg and cuff of each sock until you run out of yarn. You can also try on your socks while knitting them to be sure that you are getting the right fit. Provisional cast-on, gusset shaping and turning the heel with short rows are skills that will be acquired.
Skill Level: Intermediate. Experience with double pointed needles is a must!

SMALL BEADED PURSE with Beader Extraordinaire, Judy Pascale
In this workshop, you will learn to create a small beaded purse with an attached optional belt strap and/or attached optional shoulder strap. The purse can be made to accommodate a cell phone, or can be enlarged to carry other necessary items. The belt strap is cleverly worked at the same time as the purse and the technique used can be applied to other projects. The shoulder strap is knit separately with a buttonhole at each end and then subsequently attached to small buttons inside the purse. The purse flap is secured by a decorative button. The beaded cell phone purse can be seen on Judy’s website, www.judypascale.com. The larger version is not pictured, but there will be pictures and a sample on display in the store.
