    Plymouth Yarn Baby Alpaca Aire

Plymouth Baby Alpaca Aire is true to its name! This soft chainette yarn is super airy and lofty-- it's a great worsted weight, and when knit with a  bigger size needle, the looped fibers puff up to create the fluffiest fabric. Baby Alpaca Aire is springy to knit; the chainette construction gives the alpaca more elasticity, so large projects won't stretch out. All that, plus glorious color in solids and heathers, and the sumptuous feel of 100% alpaca! Made in Peru

Comments about Plymouth Yarn Baby Alpaca Aire:

This is my first foray into chainette yarns. Once I figure out hook size and tension, I think the results will be lofty, soft, and altogether lovely... but right now I'm struggling with stitches being too tight to show off the yarn properly. (That's my issue, not the yarn's!)

My stitch pattern is mostly plain but with a bit of cabling -- the jury is still out whether the stitch definition will work with this yarn. I'm making the plain parts first to get used to the yarn, and will see how things look a little further into the project.

Bottom line: it's a beautiful product, lovely to work with, but does require some skill and thinking about appropriate uses. I'm making a sleeveless vest for my mom-in-law, and I think she will love the softness and loft (and her favourite colour).

I knitted three strands together for a tunic vest with a honeycomb pattern. It was incredibly light and soft and an absolute pleasure to knit. The finished product is my favorite knitted piece--and I have been knitting for 58 years!

Comments about Plymouth Yarn Baby Alpaca Aire:

I made a scarf (Faina's scarf, a diamond-lace pattern designed for sport weight) and the yarn worked very well. I used the color "Evergreen", which is lovely, but when blocking, the color ran to the extent that the water was opaque through 4 rinses. The color appears the same, not faded (although it could over the years). For that reason, I wouldn't recommend using this for a two-row scarf, and if used next to the skin, the color might stain a bra. It might not, though, and is wonderful next to the skin. It made a great scarf that will double as a shawl. I wouldn't hesitate to buy this yarn again for other projects, and will probably go out of my way to find a pattern to use this again. I prefer wood straight needles to knit alpaca, as it's so slick that it's easy to drop stitches with other types (aluminum or my beloved Bates Quicksilver circulars).

I am makeing a tunic for my daughter. This is a soft and warm yarn. It makes a lovely garment . I am a little concerned about the yarns ability to hold shape in the finished garment. Time will tell
I really loved working with this yarn!

Comments about Plymouth Yarn Baby Alpaca Aire:

I had an odd ball in my stash that I started to use as a test for a project I was planning to knit and I liked the results so much I perchased another ball to complete the shawl. A friend saw mine and liked it so much that I got 2 balls to knit the pattern for her. Another friend saw it this weekend and I think she may be getting some to knit her own. It was nowhere close to the yarn that was called for but with larger needles it knit up so beautifully it has become one of the best things I've knit.
