Having difficulty finding some sport weight, machine washable yarn for sock making on my circular sock knitting machine, I gave this yarn a try. Wow, really nice, soft socks that knitted up with no problems whatsoever. I do not know how well they will wear or if they might pill, but after a couple washes, they seem just fine.

At the same time, I evaluated some Kroy Pattons yarn that was 75% wool, 25% nylon. The Kroy was a lighter, sport weight and the socks were not as soft, though they probably will wear better. I much prefer the Cascade 220 yarn.

I am knitting a cabled sweater and find the yarn very splitty - it is impossible to cable without a needle. When you slip a stitch off the needle it promptly tries to unravel and splits when you try to pick it up. I also have a lot of trouble with splitting the yarn with normal knitting/purling. The color isn't even close to what is shown on the web page - I ordered the 900 Charcoal which is shown as more of a medium gray. The yarn I received is labeled as 900 but the color is closer to the 815 Black. Luckily my son in law likes the color so I didn't have to return it. The yarn is very soft and has nice stitch definition, the fabric looks and feels lovely!

Comments about Cascade Yarns 220 Superwash Sport:

The color was beautiful and bright, and stayed that way after washed and dried.

I found the strands slick and easily unraveled, which made it quick to knit BUT frustrating when you had to fix a mistake. Stitches seemed to come apart and disappear away from your fingers.

I used my Cascade superwash 220 sport to knit a lacey sweater. It knit beautifully and I love the sweater. It wears well and washes well. This is a great yarn to use for all of your projects.

      This Yarn Has Changed Negatively!

Comments about Cascade Yarns 220 Superwash Sport:

I have knitted with Cascade 220 yarn in various weights for MANY years... both Superwash and "regular" wool, and have always been pleased with the results. That is no longer true!!! I am currently knitting a scarf/shawl with Cascade 220 Superwash Sport and I have never had a yarn shed and "fuzz" like this yarn is doing. My project looks like it's 20 years old and has been worn and washed too many times... and it isn't even off the needles yet. It looks so bad that I may never wear it, after untold hours of knitting. I see that the new Cascade dyelots now come from China instead of Peru, so maybe that is why this is the worst yarn I have knit with in 50+ years of knitting. I won't waste my time and money on this yarn again!

      Knots in 136 yards? What?

Comments about Cascade Yarns 220 Superwash Sport:

You'd think that in a short 136-yard skein, they could get it right without knots? Apparently not. Also, skeins are too long and are VERY difficult to wind into center-pull balls because yarn is quite slippery (over-processed?).

Come on Cascade, you can do better. I'm really disappointed in this yarn and will not buy again.

Comments about Cascade Yarns 220 Superwash Sport:

As usual, it is very difficult to pick a color accurately on line. I chose Angel Blue, hoping it would be light sky blue, and it is pale teal, still a very pretty color.

I made a granny square afghan for my grandsons bunk beds and it is just right- not too heavy but also not too light. I have a question- can you machine dry this yarn on a cool setting or do you have to lie it flat?

I used this for a vest for my husband. It felt great in the skein and as I knit it, as well as in the finished project. I would be a die-hard convert to this yarn if I hadn't had such trouble with it splitting. I used solid black, so it was more of a problem than it would have been in a lighter color - a single ply would get left behind and leave a loop waving in the breeze but I wouldn't see it until several rows on. I'm sure I would have seen it sooner (and fixed it more easily) in a lighter color.
