I'm working with this on a fair isle sweater for my daughter who is moving to LA, so I needed a lightweight cotton in pretty colors. I had a very hard time finding fine enough cottons in colors that weren't the typical sock yarn colors - dark, boring, won't-show-dirt gray and navy, and variegated blinding colors that just wouldn't serve the purpose. These are ever so soft (only ones in the project softer are the Creamy Flame, but they only come in a few sherbet-y colors) as judged by my 12 year old son, who nuzzled them all with his face. The only complaint I have is that I wish they were spun tighter, because sometimes I miss a ply with my needle - is this what is meant by splitty? However, part of my requirements for this sweater were washability, and I just washed my swatch, and they seem to have stood up great to the process, so I'm pleased.

I ordered this yarn to knit an edging for pillowcases, for which I couldn't find crochet cotton thick enough for my purpose. I would rate the yarn five stars if I hadn't had to struggle my way through two skeins of constant snagging. This yarn is made up of seven plies of very thin cotton that are loosely twisted together and that separate into the individual strands as they are knitted. Although the end result is very satisfactory, I wouldn't want to repeat the process.

      Comments about SMC Egypto Cotton:

Used this yarn to make an Interweave Crochet Summer 2014 tunic pattern. Its nice lightweight yarn, worked easily but the texture was a little coarse and it split some while crocheting with it. I haven't washed the tunic yet, hopefully that will improve the texture.

        Comments about SMC Egypto Cotton:

I have arthritis. I had been making dish cloths out of regular "sugar and cream" cotton thread. Those cloths are too bulky for me to wring completely. These are just right, and ever so soft!!!

              Comments about SMC Egypto Cotton:

It feels wonderful. I live in the south and am making a summer top out of it, just cap sleeves. Looking forward to wearing it. The yarn splits a bit at times, but that's not a big deal. It has a lovely sheen to it. Although my purls are usually tighter than my knits, this yarn doesn't show it. The colors are true to what you see on the website. All together a sweet yarn at a good price.
