I love, love, love this yarn. It makes me happy. I've collected a number of colors and now have plenty to make lovely multi-colored afghans or scarves. Sometimes when a color is discontinued, WEBS will have it as a closeout which is a great time to stock up.

The DK weight is great for sweaters that aren't too bulky. It works up great in a lace pattern too.

I purchased a ball of this at my LYS to swatch before ordering. Glad I did. It's classified as a DK, and it looks like about a DK -- until you knit it up. It's very lightweight, with a loose twist, so it knits up more as a fingering. This yarn would be ideal for a floaty, lacy scarf, but I wouldn't recommend it for a cozy sweater. That said, it's pretty, has a good hand, and the texture is just the teeniest bit pebbly. It knits up very evenly.

Comments about Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool:

I have used Silky Wool many times and never been disappointed. It has a soft, tweedy effect but at a good price point. It is soft for next to the skin wear and comes in muted colors I like. Because of the silk, it would not be a good choice for a highly structured jacket or cardigan, IMO, but I did make a lace cardi this winter that turned out beautifully in grey, and completed a multicolor circular tube scarf with leftovers from that and other projects using Silky Wool. It does bleed some in the wash. Some people use vinegar, but I just plan on several lukewarm rinses and that solves the problem. The wash evens stitches nicely. It's a well behaved yarn. For the price/yardage, I highly recommend

Comments about Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool:

I'm surprised, given all of the technology available today, that a yarn merchant cannot represent colors better on their website. I think I've received 1 skein of yarn in the last 6 months that has been as pictured on a merchant's website. I'm very disappointed. I like other things about this yarn, just not the color.

The sweater I am making (O'Hare by Elsebeth Lavold) is beautiful. I just don't like that one skein has had 3 knots so far and one other in another.

Used a full ball of the yarn in a swatch. I prefer the gauge of 5.8 stitches per inch to fewer stitches per inch. Using same needle size, the pattern stitches are lovely. will make a Cardigan and "overhead" blouse. Joy to have in hand.

Comments about Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool:

Ten years ago, when my daughter started college, I knitted myself a pullover sweater of Silky Wool during the long drive to her school. I have worn the sweater each fall since then, and it still looks almost new. The color, a deep plum, has not faded, and pilling is minimal. The sweater has kept its shape, too, although the elbows are starting to bag a little. Now, as then, the cables are sharply defined. The sweater is soft, and warm without being heavy. The yarn was pleasant to work with, and the slight variations in the way the wool and the silk take the dye made the work interesting even when doing large sections of stockinette stitch. I occasionally found a bit of hay in the yarn -- not unexpected when you consider a sheep's lifestyle! -- but it was no trouble to pick it out. Actually, the presence of hay is an assurance the yarn has not been treated by any harsh chemicals used to dissolve stray bits of vegetable matter. My gauge was 5.5-6 st/in, so my lightweight sweater did not take too long to make up. I just purchased Silky Wool in bright red for a cardigan -- to wear for the next ten years!

Just finished a top-down cardigan on size 7 Denise circulars. This went together beautifully. It's a lightweight cardigan that will be wonderful in-between seasons. No knots at all and very evenly dyed. I bought it when it was on sale so it was a special bargain. I will buy more in the future.
