I made the Tucked Pullover sweater designed by Quenna Lee and published in Knit Wear (fall/winter2013) with Coffee Bean Brown Silky Wool. It was really fun to work with and I absolutely love my finished sweater. It's lightweight but nice and warm and it layers well over blouses and tops. I was afraid I didn't have enough yarn to make the sleeves as long as I wanted, but found it easy to stretch them out during blocking. I was so impressed that I bought more in two different colors to make more sweaters. Can't wait to get started on them.

I purchased a ball of this at my LYS to swatch before ordering. Glad I did. It's classified as a DK, and it looks like about a DK -- until you knit it up. It's very lightweight, with a loose twist, so it knits up more as a fingering. This yarn would be ideal for a floaty, lacy scarf, but I wouldn't recommend it for a cozy sweater. That said, it's pretty, has a good hand, and the texture is just the teeniest bit pebbly. It knits up very evenly.

Comments about Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool:

I received this yarn in shortest time possible since I ordered over a weekend. Great service as always! Always get exactly what I order!
I will be making a ponchette with it and this will be my second in Silky Wool. The yarn knits up beautifully with no splitting and does not chafe my hands at all. My only disappointment was that after blocking, it returned to it's pre blocking size making the ponchette too small for me even though I knit the large size and I'm a petite size. I will be adding repeats on this next one which is very easy to do. I love this yarn! Not too warm yet comfortable to wear inside in Minnesota weather. Thanks Webs for carrying this yarn in all the great colors!

Dry feel, nubby texture

Comments about Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool:

This yarn was not what I expected from a silk blend. It is very "dry" to the touch and has a nubby texture that makes for poor stitch definition. I am knitting a wrap for my daughter and it is coming out "floppy" with a soft drape which is what I wanted but I would not call the fabric soft. I chose the gray (a color preference of my daughter's but not mine) and it is a bit variegated -- not truly solid gray. I will finish the garment but I am not thrilled with the yarn and most likely will not use it again.

Comments about Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool:

I discovered Silky Wool while visiting a LYS when I was on vacation. I experience medication-related hot flashes that are beyond severe so am always looking for very lightweight yarns, and they don't come any lighter than this one. Due to hand surgery I've not been able to do any knitting recently, but rest assured, one of my Silky Wool projects is next on the docket!!! The WEBS description that says "We can't keep our hands off" this yarn says it all. Touching the yarn is pure delight, and the colors are rich and absolutely stunning! In my bag are Maraschino, Forest and Mallard for cowls, and a rust color (#92, I think) for a sweater. While this product comes in several shades of red, I wanted a blue red, ruby, the red that my mom really loved, and the Maraschino was it. My only "minus" about this yarn has to do with the weight. To me, it's lighter than a DK.

Comments about Elsebeth Lavold Silky Wool:

I have seen this yarn around for years but only decided to try it with WEBS' sale and color selection. Why did I wait? I've only swatched a textured three-color pattern and cable with moss stitch but both are excellent. The combination of wool and silk gives this yarn a lovely texture without losing any stitch definition. If you didn't read the yarn label, you'd swear from the knit-up appearance that it was majority raw silk. And it's feel surprised me. I can only wear soft wool blends next to my skin; I'm going to try it with this yarn because it's so non-scratchy. I have ordered three more colors of this yarn and I'm scoping out a couple of others - I may be late to the party but I learn fast. Love this yarn. (The colors in the swatch are 36 Cinnamon, 29 Vibrant Green and 74 Orange. I also have 147 Pale Ale which is almost identical to Cinnamon but with more tweedy speckles.)
