Plymouth Yarn Kudo

Perfect for slightly warmer garments, Kudo is a lovely cotton blend yarn that knits up into stripes with a great tweedy look.  You'll love working with it and watching the colors change.  Made in China.

I use this yarn for easy scarves and my standby, the La-La Simple Shawl. I live in the Southern US, but cotton yarn usually hurts my hands. This doesn't. I also like Cascade Tangier, but it sheds like a llama. This doesn't. Others complain about splitting and breaking, but I've never had that problem. Part of the reason is probably that I always use at least a #9 needle with it for an open look AND I don't go for remotely complex patterns on shawls or scarves. The twisting is not as much of a problem if I wind with a swift and ball winder and pull from the center. Even so, there are MANY yarns a lot twistier, so I don't mind this.

I received 2 skeins in a 'mystery' bag and purchased a third to complete the shrug I was making. All three skeins had the same problems. Thickness is listed as Worsted but ran from lace to roving and I frequently had issues with it pulling apart forcing me to rip out stitches to weave in new ends. It twisted up frequently no matter what I tried to prevent it. I also found pieces of hay throughout all three skeins, some as long as a 1/4". As most of the pieces had clearly been dyed it wasn't a case of picking it up from a display setting. This was the worst yarn I've ever worked with.

        Comments about Plymouth Yarn Kudo:

I adore self-striping yarns, but often the color repeats aren't long enough to look well crocheted, only knitted. This worked up great as a crocheted scarf/shawl. Also, as someone who can't work with animal fibers, I loved that it doesn't contain wool or other animal fibers.

        Comments about Plymouth Yarn Kudo:

This yarn is delightful! The colors are fun and I love the fiber content. It does twist up a bit, but I think that's part of the charm for this yarn, since it looks hand spun. I ordered twice and was able to receive the same dye lot. The shipping is smoking fast so my project wasn't delayed. Excellent service all the way!

          Comments about Plymouth Yarn Kudo:

I love the colorations in this yarn, however, the stretches of some of the colors are so long that you get large areas of "pooling" , I wish the color stretches were even in length. It is nice and soft. My only strong dislike is the way the yarn twists up, so that I have to spend time trying to untwist sections so I can continue. I understand that this is caused by the way the manufacturer spins it. It seems to be opposite to the way most other yarn is spun. Bottom line, I like this yarn for the coloration and its softness.

          Comments about Plymouth Yarn Kudo:

Since this is a single ply yarn, it tends to untwist, causing it to fall apart. I had to knit carefully and tried to add back the twist when I thought about it. Other than that, it's exactly what I was looking for. I live in the desert and am on the lookout constantly for yarns that won't be too warm when knitted up. This one fits the bill.

I purchased this yarn for use as a doubled strand in non-animal fiber winter hats. It was too light for that use, so I used it in a summer slouchy hat instead. It is really between a DK and a worsted weight. I would recommend this yarn--it is quite pretty--but I would warn the use that it isn't really a worsted weight.
