Plymouth Yarn Kudo

Perfect for slightly warmer garments, Kudo is a lovely cotton blend yarn that knits up into stripes with a great tweedy look.  You'll love working with it and watching the colors change.  Made in China.

I find Kudo fun to work with. Have bought it several times. My only draw back is that it tends to twist quite a bit, so I have found it easier to crochet than knit. I love the unexpected color combinations and the fact that the stripes are often totally random. Keeps your interest alive throughout the project. You would be hard pressed to create the same object twice. This picture shows a slouch I crocheted using Kudo #54.

I received 2 skeins in a 'mystery' bag and purchased a third to complete the shrug I was making. All three skeins had the same problems. Thickness is listed as Worsted but ran from lace to roving and I frequently had issues with it pulling apart forcing me to rip out stitches to weave in new ends. It twisted up frequently no matter what I tried to prevent it. I also found pieces of hay throughout all three skeins, some as long as a 1/4". As most of the pieces had clearly been dyed it wasn't a case of picking it up from a display setting. This was the worst yarn I've ever worked with.

Pros

  • Good Weight
  • Knits Quickly
  • Machine Washable
  • Nice Texture
  • Soft

Cons

  • Yarn Breaks Easily

Best Uses

Comments about Plymouth Yarn Kudo:

I made a cowl and a scarf. I liked the colors and the way it striped. I did not like that the yarn just broke in several places. It happened mostly on the green sections so I thought that maybe the dye caused the weakness.

    Comments about Plymouth Yarn Kudo:

I'm making myself a very open summery wrap skirt out of this, and it is a lovely blend that will be a favorite for years to come. The ONLY downside is that any tugging on the yarn itself and it just melts away in your hands.. But as long as you avoid that, it's a lovely color and feel, and a lot of fun to work with.

    Comments about Plymouth Yarn Kudo:

This yarn is dense and produces beautiful tweed stripes. The stripes vary according to the width of your garment. I am making a high-low cardigan and the striping is beautiful. It is made in one-piece picking up stitches on different sides, so your stripes are going different ways. Shows off the yarn to it's best! I am very happy with this yarn

Yes, it tends to twist. The solution, pull out several feet at a time.

Yes, it will break if you stress it too much. Solution, knit looser. I am doing cables and have had no problems.

I was all excited to knit a scarf with Kudo but had to give up after my yarn kept breaking anytime I put the slightest tension on it. Very disappointed.

I use this doubled -- pulling from both ends of the skein -- to make beanie-type hats for sale to people who are allergic to wool.

I love the colorways, but find that it is "sticky" when pulling from both ends and tends to tangle up. It is a minor problem, relatively, but is why this yarn gets only four stars from me.
