Valley Yarns Rayon Chenille

WEBS is one of the only suppliers of rayon chenille to use colorfast dyes. A bit more expensive, but well worth the cost. Rayon chenille is spectacular woven. We recommend a sett of 12 to 16 epi. Fine gauge machine knitters can also produce wonderful fabrics with rayon chenille. (We do not recommend rayon chenille this fine for hand knitting as it is slippery and has no resilience, so it is most likely to stretch.)  $1.50 per cone charge for wind-off service. Please see our FAQ page for more information about in-store wind-offs.

Color Cards and Color Books for this yarn are available.

Note: Yarns sold by the pound may have their quantity adjusted before the order is sent to reflect the actual weight of what is being sent out. Cone weights may vary.

I used it to crochet a skirt as a swim suit cover up for resort wear. It is a luxurious yarn. I started to knit it, but couldn't get it to look consistent.

Comments about Valley Yarns Rayon Chenille:

I have been working almost exclusively with rayon chenille for a very long time, and I have to say it's one of the best materials for a weaver to familiarize themselves with. Valley Yarns produces top-notch quality chenille with colors that immediately grab attention. I ordered five cones of this (Sienna, Dark Brown, Royal Blue, Red Purple, and Ruby Red) at the beginning of this month and I'm nearly out already. My only complaint in regards to the actual product itself is focused on the Dark Brown. If you are ordering Dark Brown, be aware that it is not, in fact, brown and instead is much closer to a dark sage green color that could really only be described as "brown-ish". I originally thought it was a problem with an individual dye lot, but I then saw that a friend of mine had a Dark Brown cone from a dye lot from a couple years ago and it had the exact same shade, and she had been equally disappointed with the color when it first arrived. It's a nice color to weave with, but it simply is not "dark brown".

    Service and delivery comments:

Now, in WEBS' delivery is where I encountered the rest of the problems I had with my order. The Royal Blue had been backordered and so that arrived separately, but the first part of my order arrived with the other four cones. First, the box was too big for four cones, and there were no packing materials whatsoever inside the box to make sure the cones stayed put and didn't get knocked around during transit. As a result, the Ruby Red, Red Purple, and Dark Brown had come partially unraveled and tangled up with each other. I had to untangle them myself in order to escape cutting off a significant amount of yarn. Lastly, the cone of Sienna looked as though it had been compressed in a Thigh Master, just squeezed from both sides until it was almost flat. This made many of the strands near the bottom of the cone snap, and so the yarn was physically damaged rather than just being tangled like the others.

I had ordered this yarn specifically for a customer, whose commissioned scarf had already been delayed once due to my going on holiday. If I had not ordered it specially for this reason, I would have returned it immediately, but as it was, it was the better financial option to simply keep it and fix as much of it as I could.

I did call WEBS to complain about the packaging (or lack thereof) and the lady I spoke to on the phone was very kind and handled it well, and she promised to deliver the feedback to the shipping department, so I'm hoping this was a fluke. In any case, I will be buying my chenille exclusively from local sellers for a long while.

Comments about Valley Yarns Rayon Chenille:

I have used cotton Chenille and love it's weight and feel. I was hoping this Rayon Chenille would be similar. In all ways it is, although it is flat like the other chenille it is a much thinner weight. I love using it because the colors and shine are beautiful so double it up and use 2 strands at a time. It was advertised for knitting, but I use it for crocheting and it works great!

Comments about Valley Yarns Rayon Chenille:

I use only with itself, have had it worm out of place when mixed with other yarns. I use 12 epi, about equal to weft, packing in as tight as it can. The colors are rich, wonderful and fast. Makes a nice scarf, soft on the skin. Several other weavers say it breaks for them. They are using heavier looms. My relatively delicate Harrisville is just right.
