Needles: US size 7 needles or size needed to obtain gauge

Is there a mistake in the First Ring, rows 2-10? Can I knit six rows without increasing and still get a smooth round blanket?
I've not found a correction posted anywhere.
Please help, I am so anxious to continue knitting this beautiful pattern.

I am questioning the 'First Ring' part of this pattern, rows 2-10. There is no increase within these rows. Does that work? It just seems like I should be increasing at least every other row.
Help is appreciated.
