Join us in welcoming Gudrun Johnston and her wonderful garments from The Shetland Trader - Book One.
Gudrun was born in the Shetland Islands but now resides in Western Massachusetts. She began designing knitwear about five years ago and has self published many patterns since. Her work has appeared in Knitty.com, Twist Collective, knitinthenet.com and Knitscene. Gudrun includes aspects of her Shetland heritage in her designs, utilizing traditional lace patterns in a contemporary context. She designs using seamless construction and is always adding new methods to her seamless knitting skills.
Gudrun’s first book, The Shetland Trader-Book One, marks a return to the traditions that shaped her appreciation of knitwear. Each of the book’ s ten patterns feature elements of Shetland Lace, ranging from a chunky scarf to a delicate lace weight cardigan, with plenty of variety in between.
Photographed on location in Shetland by Jared Flood, the book is more than just a collection of patterns. It’s a fusion of the old and the new, informed by personal history and a unique island culture.
Come and meet Gudrun, hear about the book and Shetland and see the garments and beautiful Shetland landscapes for yourself. Registration is free, but sign-ups are required. Please contact Customer Service at 413-584-2225 or firstname.lastname@example.org to register.
