Beginner Lace

Lace is beautiful to look at, simple to learn, and luxurious on the skin. Learn to knit a lovely lace scarf or shawl while acquiring the ability to read charts and explore open stitch patterns. At the finish of this 2-session class, you'll have a lacy scarf or shawl to wear in over-air-conditioned restaurants or offices, or out on the town!

Time: 10:30am - 12:30pm
Materials Required:

  • Valley Yarns Pattern #120, Falling Leaves Shawl and Scarf
  • Light worsted-weight or DK yarn (220 yards for the scarf, 775 yards for the shawl)
  • Stitch markers
  • Sizes 6, 7, 8 size US needles for gauge swatch worked in class; gauge for your shawl or scarf is 5 st/1" in lace pattern after blocking 
  • Knitter's Tool Kit

Practice swatch:

  1. With scrap yarn and appropriate needles, CO 19 stitches.
  2. Knit 2 rows, work in Stockinette Stitch for 6 rows, do not bind off, do not cut yarn.

For gauge swatch:

  1. With project yarn and size 7 needles, CO 19 stitches.
  2. Knit 2 rows, work in stockinette stitch for 6 rows, ending with a purl row.

Bring to first class on needles.
