Rooistud Inlay with Kate Gagnon Osborn & Courtney Kelley

Using the Yvette Rooistud Hat, from Vintage Modern Knits, participants will learn to work a wrapped Rooistud inlay, a traditional Estonian patterning technique. This is a great project for students interested in learning historical techniques while creating a truly unique accessory.

Materials Required:
- Vintage Modern Knits, by Courtney Kelley & Kate Gagnon Osborn
- 2 skeins of The Fibre Company Road to China Light to be used as the MC (Sample uses color Riverstone) Instructors will have various colors of Road to China Light available during class to use as contrast colors.
- 16” circular needle US Size 1 (2.25mm); 16” circular needle US Size 3 (3.25mm); 1 set of dpn, US Size 3 (3.25mm)
- Stitch markers; Tapestry needle
Prior to class, please complete the following: Prior to class, please complete the following: With MC, larger needle, and using a provisional method, CO 62 sts. Do not join. Purl 1 row (WS), knit 1 row, then purl 1 row. Remove waste yarn from provisional CO and carefully place 62 exposed stitches onto smaller needle. Hold needles parallel with larger needle in front and WS of fabric facing together. JOINING ROW: (RS) With smaller needle, *k1 from front needle, p1 from back needle; rep from * - 124 stitches. Continue with smaller circular needle, place marker, and join for working in rounds, being careful not to twist stitches. Work in k1, p1 rib until piece measures 1 ½” from CO. INC ROUND: *K2, M1, [k3, M1] 5 times, k2, M1, [k3, M1] 4 times; rep from * - 168 stitches. Transfer stitches to larger size circular needle and bring to class.
