Stitches: Lace

This class is currently full. To be placed on the waiting list, please call Customer Service at 800-367-9327.

Knitted Lace isn't just a pretty arrangement of holes, it's a delicate balancing act of increases and decreases that can intimidate even a skilled knitter. Stitches: Lace will guide you through all the common stitches, shapes, and arrangments of knitted lace, from simple eyelets to complex patterns, so you can knit any lace pattern with ease and confidence.

Prerequisite: Knitting II, or equivalent
Instructor: Kirsten Hipsky
Date: Wednesdays - 10/22, 10/29, 11/5; 2014
Time: 10:30am - 12:30pm
Materials Required:

  • Knitter's Companion by Vicki Square
  • 1 skein fingering weight yarn or at least 450 yards for sample squares and swatches. We recommend Valley Yarns Charlemont
  • US size 3 and 4 (3.25-3.50mm) needles OR SIZE TO GET GAUGE OF 6 sts and 8 rows = 1" in stockinette stitch. NOTE: We strongly recommend metal, straight needles for this class. We find that metal needles make the fiber content of Charlemont easiest to work with and the uniform diameter of straight needles helps avoid any difficulty in sliding tight stitches around.
  • T-pins for in-class blocking
  • Small towel for blocking
  • Knitting tool kit

HOMEWORK: Wind your yarn into a center-pull ball and knit a gauge swatch (6"X 6") to get gauge of 6 sts and 8 rows in st st.

*When possible, please buy your materials from WEBS.
