Wild Clover Clutch

These adorable little purses are great for throwing in your bag to hold the essentials—be it knitting or otherwise.  Add cute beads or buttons and you’re ready to go.  This class is a great place to try your hand at reading and following a chart and learning invisible seaming techniques, while working on a project that will move along quickly.

Skill Level: Advanced Beginner
Instructor: Beth Altimari
Date: Mondays, 10/28, 11/4, 2013
Time: 6:00pm - 8:00pm

  • Plied yarns often show stitch definition more than single twist yarns.  The two clutches will need approx. 110 yards of a cotton blend, wool or wool blends, such as Valley Yarns Goshen, Southwick, or Colrain. (Pattern uses VY Stockbridge which may “grow” with use from the alpaca.) The clutches are worked in a snug gauge for a denser fabric than usual.
  • Needles: US size 5 straight needles, or size that will give you 5.5 sts/inch. Note that this is a denser gauge than you would normally get from a worsted weight yarn.
  • Yarn sewing needle
  • Stitch markers
  • A yard of thin, firm yarn or string for a lace “life line”
  • Sticky notes, a straight edge, or a magnetic chart keeper board to help with reading knitting charts
  • 1 small shank type button for each clutch

Using project yarn, cast on 18 sts. and work for 2 inches in stockinette stitch and measure for correct gauge of 5.5 sts/in. (this is a denser fabric than normal for worsted weight), changing needle size if needed to get gauge. Then continue for 4 more inches in correct gauge, leaving stitches on a stitch holder or other needles. Bring swatch to class.
