Mary Jane Mucklestone is a hand knitting designer known for her colorful and inventive Fair Isle and colorwork designs featured in Interweave Knits, Twist Collective, Classic Elite Yarns, Alchemy Yarns, St. Denis Magazine and an assortment of books, as well as at her website MaryJaneMucklestone.com.
Mary Jane has a varied background in art and textiles earning a BFA in printmaking from Pratt Institute, studying fashion at Parsons School for Design, and Textiles at the University of Washington. She was photostylist for Interweave Knits Magazine, has taught handwork to the early grades in a Waldorf School, as well as working for years in the fashion industry in New York City, and the related elds of advertising and interior design. This past year she traveled to Peru and the Shetland Islands specifically to study colorwork knitting. Her book 200 Fair Isle Motifs, published by Interweave Press will be released Fall 2011.
A popular teacher specializing in lively, fun, and informative classes, Mary Jane gives her students the courage to try something new! She lives in rural Maine, in a house she and her family designed and built themselves.
