I really wanted to like these needles. I'd seen so many wonderful reviews and thought I'd give them a try. I've been doing a lot of sock knitting using the magic loop method and the needles that I currently have, although smooth and sleek have a really springy cable. These needles feel great in the hand, the cable is nice and soft and the tips are great, pointy and smooth. But the absolute deal breaker for me are the lousy joins. Both from the tip to the shaft and the shaft to the cable they are not at all smooth and actually snagged my yarn. Wanted to love them, but they just are not going to work for me.

The LYS clerk told me I'd love them, and I really wanted to. I am a fan of the Dreamz needles, and I would have bought one if they'd had any in stock.
I really like how slick the tip is. I'm assuming it's made of the same material as Nova/Options needles, and the stitches flow very well across it... until they reach the join. Maybe I just got a bad one, I don't know - but I grew tired of having to force the stitches down the needle. This problem is compounded by the fact that the carbon fiber shaft has much more grip than the metal tips.
I'd advise trying these out before you buy, or purchase them from a shop with a lenient return policy. I knitted about 3" worth of a pair of socks before I conceded that I just wasn't going to get used to them.

Pros: Gorgeous to look at. Affordable. Great point. Comfortable lightweight material. Great cable flexibility for magic loop.
Cons: the join between the needles and cable is not as smooth as it needs to be. Constantly had to massage the stitches over the join which is a pain when using magic loop method. Not my go-to choice.
Pros
- great cable
- Light
- Well Made
Cons
- not enough sizes

Comments about Knitter's Pride Karbonz Fixed Circular Needles 40":
First off, visually they are lovely. The bright polished nickel tips and cable joins are a brilliant contrast to the shiny black needle shafts. It's worth noting that the needle size is printed both on the carbon shaft, and the steel cable join. I thought this was a nice touch.
The points are pointy, without being too stabby or sharp. I generally work somewhat tightly, and haven't so far noticed any soreness in my fingertips. In fact, my hands feel pretty great after using these.
The cable itself is very flexible, without being floppy at all. There's really no memory in it, and I haven't so far seen any sign of kinking or twisting.
Overall, I think these carbon fiber needles are a bargain. It's a shame that they are only made up to a US 4 size. It's probably to keep costs down, but the light weight would make knitting with larger needles a breeze.

These needles are great with working with yarn that may split easily. The tips are sharp but not too sharp. The weight is light and the material is warm in the hand. I can knit much longer and faster as a result. The black color accentuates my knitting work beautifully. I want one in every size!
