I purchased the mossy rock colorway, which I fell in love with on the website. But, I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived in the mail and I loved the colors even more in person. The color was deep and lucious. The yarn felt nice while knitting. Nice and stretchy.

There was a small amount of 'growth' in my project after washing & blocking, so I definitely recommend washing & blocking a gauge swatch for anything where size matters. My project was a shawl so gauge didn't matter much.

My only complaint was the shedding while knitting. And by shedding, I mean that it seemed like there were pieces of dog hair stuck in the yarn. I seriously wondered if the dyer had a westie becaus it was like short white hairs. Maybe it was part of the yarn? But somehow I doubt it because the color was so dark and the hairs were all white.

I am a knitter and jewelry designer, so when I see a magnificent color combination in yarn it's hard to resist. I saw the Macaw in the fall catalog and rushed to find it on the website. The picture showed a wonderful combination of rich fuschia, aqua, and lime, with hints of rust. Wow!

What I actually got was a gaudy orange-red and brick red, teal, and a mix between pea- and forest-green with lots of muddy color-bleed. I am SO disappointed.

The yarn feels a little coarse, but other than that I'm sure it's a prefectly acceptable sock yarn, but I am heartbroken about the misrepresentation of the colors. I get that hand-dyed yarn varies, but this isn't even close.

It is fine for everyday socks, not necessarily for a present since the yarn doesn't feel special, not really soft but ok texture.

The subtle color changes in this yarn create stripes in socks about every two rows. What is the most "cool" thing about the dying is how outrageously gorgeous theule and acids green are!

While this yarn is hand-dyed and each skein unique in itself, the colorway I received was much darker than I expected. Another skein of yarn that will be go to the bottom of the stash. Too bad, as I like this yarn.

I bought color way "macaw" two skeins because of the bright blues and pinks for a baby sweater. I know it is hand dyed so can vary but I received green and red yarn. Very ugly and not the colors in the picture. When I called customer service she said "oh that's an old picture in the catalog" no apology.

Comments about Valley Yarns Franklin Hand Dyed by the Kangaroo Dyer:

While the colors were lovely, I did not care for the feel of this yarn and sent it back. Even in the skein, it felt coarse. Since I was planning socks, coarse was not the desired attribute. The wool used also seemed to have a lot of "other" textured fibers in it, either a different kind of wool or something that was caught up in the spinning process.

I was a little disappointed when I received this yarn -- the colors weren't as vibrant as I thought they'd be. I made a cowl that turned out great and I actually enjoyed working with the yarn. I'll definitely try other yarns dyed by the Kangaroo Dyer!
