Sure, if you buy all your yarn at the LYS they will wind your yarn into balls for you. But, if you see a great deal for yarn that you purchase online, you are left to manually convert the hank to a ball.
It used to take me several hours to turn a 470 yard hank into a ball using manual methods. Now, using my ball winder and yarn swift, the same job takes only 10 minutes.
I'm so glad that I broke down and spent the money! I'm not sure how it will hold up over time and lots of use, but I will be happy to update my review later with that information.
