Great for laceweight projects

I have used this for knitting fine lace projects, single strand. The yarn is comparable in weight to size 30 cotton crochet thread. Knits up and blocks beautifully!

i weave with this silk, usually inkle bands for trim. Silk is forgiving about humidity, gives a clean shed easily, and looks nice. There is some tendency for pilling, which can interfer with advancing the warp. I would like a bright yellow and a yellowgold, as the grapefruit is way to light for me.

Great color and stitch definition, using for filet crochet. Yarn is a little splitty when the stitches get too tight. I'm using a 1.5 mm hook.

Comments about Valley Yarns 20/2 Silk:

I weave shawls and scarves with a combination of silk, merino wool and other luxury fibers set at 24-28 epi. I finish my weaving in the washing machine, avoiding the wash cycle. They are pressed when almost dry to bring up the shine. A proper finish is important when using this product in hand weaving.
The biggest drawback to this product is the price. That is why I like to see it on sale once in awhile. I would also love to have more color choices.

Made wedding "evening wraps" for my son's wedding in Maui; wove 9 in natural and dyed all 9 different colors for the wedding party -- spectacular!
The "hand" was luscious; each wrap's color after dyeing came out so beautiful.

I blend this with my natural suri alpaca yarns and it knits up very nicely. Helps with the stretchiness of that fiber.

Comments about Valley Yarns 20/2 Silk:

This yarn is gorgeous and so so soft. A word to the wise from the not-so-wise: it sticks like crazy. SPRAY WITH SIZING BEFORE YOU TRY TO WIND IT ON THE BACK BEAM!!! I didn't expect this because the 60/2 silk didn't stick like this, and have a real mess that I'm having to separate thread by thread after having tried to beam it.

It weaves up into the beautiful scarves and shawls. I use it with my fan reeds, and it glides through the narrowing dents easily. It wet finishes wonderfully. And it's not too pricey.

It is hard to find good silk weaving yarn on cones in a good range of colors. That keeps me coming back for more.

Comments about Valley Yarns 20/2 Silk:

I use this to machine-knit scarfs, and been doing so for many years. Only reason I didn't give it a 5-star rating is that I've recently been experiencing knots, where the manufacturer had to tie two ends together. And of course that's not something you notice until it either comes undone or you discover an irregularity in the middle of the piece which diminishes its overall smoothness.
