Ironstone Yarns Brushed Mohair on Cones

This mohair blend is great for creating fabric with a fuzzy texture. Experiment with different options and have fun with it.  Great for fluffy blankets that weave up fast! This yarn would also work for knitting or crocheting.

If you want to order an amount that is not a whole number (1/2 lb or 1 1/2 lbs for example) order the amount closest to that amount and then make a note in the shopping cart special instructions. (example: I would like 1.5 pounds of color Ombre.)

Note: Yarns sold by the pound may have their quantity adjusted before the order is sent to reflect the actual weight of what is being sent out. Cone weights may vary. $1.50 charge for wind-off service.

I have always believed that mohair was soft. This is not soft, and it feels a lot like that coarse acrylic pseudo fluffy stuff. Because its not slick, and its a little stiff, it makes it very hard to knit - becuase you have to knit slowly and make sure you pull really hard to get enough of the fibers through to move onto the next stitch.
I'm not enoying knitting with this, and while I started a scarf - I realized at about 1 foot deep that its too scratchy to actually wear anywhere near your skin. Cant frog it - its well locked as you go (expected with something like mohair I believe) - and cant return it (because I've used it... so I've switched up and am trying to push through and make some kind of pull over vest or something with what I've started.
It'll work or it wont - but I wont buy mohair online again... nasty stuff this.

I use brushed mohair with a worsted wool. First knit then machine felted, a beautiful hat is created.

Comments about Ironstone Yarns Brushed Mohair on Cones:

Yes, I do agree with the one reviewer that this mohair does not feel soft; which it does when it is on the cone. However, after knitting it up into a blanket, it is truly soft and very warm. As per mohair qualities, it is brushed and so the fibres tend to "grab" the needles as you are knitting. But that is very minor to the value for money as mohair tends to be expensive. One drawback is that it is only available in white - I wish there was more colours. And so, when I knit with it, I combined it with Rowan Kidsilk Haze Eclipse for a bit of shimmer and colour.

I am planning on buying more as I said, this is very good value for the money.

I had some lace weight brushed mohair in my stash, hated knitting with it. So, I decided to try something crazy.... I wet felted it. It made a gorgeous scarf! Sold 10+ of these at craft shows. They were really easy to make.

I'm using this as a core for tailspun and other corespun yarns, and it is perfect for that! It grabs onto the fiber securely, and makes for a sturdy core. It is thicker than other brushed mohair, so the final product is a fatter yarn, but that's what I'm going for.

It also dyes well when I want other colors, too. I'm very happy with this yarn!!! Great for the price.

attached knit sample scarf using middle part "Giselle", but I didn't have enough yarns and used to finish it brushed mohair yarns. For the lace scarf bit too thick. I would recommend for hats and sweaters.

                Service and delivery comments:

Service, as always was prompt and accurate. Imagine my surprise, however, when I received, instead of the 4 pound cones I was going to split with a friend one huge giant enormous 4 pound cone.
