Comments about Cast On, Bind Off:

I recommended this book to my students for its great pictorial instructions as well as a learning tool to expand on new techniques for Cast Ons and Bind Off and when to use them in there projects.
Most of my students are visual learners and this book has excellent pictures of hand movement's.
I love that this book is spiral bound and will lie flat during use.

Comments about Cast On, Bind Off:

This book is a great size, and I had no problem with the directions, but I was disappointed with the number of various cast-ons, in particular. There is another book with the same title, but a different author which is more complete.

Comments about Cast On, Bind Off:

This book was everything I hoped it would be. There are many cast ons and bind offs to choose from and explanation is given for when to use each one. Do I want stretchy? Do I want more stable? Do I want decorative? Do I want combinations of stretchy and decorative, etc? I have gone to this book and used the information several times. I have been very pleased with the book and with my finished knitted projects.

Comments about Cast On, Bind Off:

I found this book difficult to use, for two reasons:
                  1. The pictures and text are too small for the visually impaired.
                  2. Not all the steps are illustrated, making it hard to use.
For example, in illustrating the German Twisted Cast-on, moving from step one through to step three, the illustration only shows you the start and the finish, but fails to illustrate the second step, the twist maneuver. You have to switch from the picture to the text to execute the middle step.
Also, it does NOT cover all cast-ons and bind-offs; it is therefore NOT a complete reference.
Stick to Montse Stanley's Knitter's Handbook for a more complete reference.

Comments about Cast On, Bind Off:

I learned four new Cast-ons and three new Bind-offs in a single evening's sitting, including the I-cord, which I had previously been told was horrifically hard. It's not. It takes more time (and yarn) than most other Bind-offs, but the directions in this book are perfectly straightforward, clear, and easy to follow. The book is small enough to tote around with you in your knitting bag and that's good, because the likelihood is that you are going to want to do just that. Each Cast-on and Bind-off is described in terms of the kind of edge it produces, and recommended as "Good For" specific projects. I foresee using this book a LOT. My only recommendation is that ALL two techniques described over two pages should be on pages that FACE one another. Most are, but not all. Having to turn the page in the middle of a new technique is just not something you want to have to do.
