I bought this yarn for a Craftsy class "Top Down Icelandic Sweater". I wanted other colors than those offered for sale with the class. Webs offered plenty of colors. And when buying the amount needed for the sweater it came along with a fantastic discount. I saved over $15.00! It was also shipped very quickly for free. I will be back for more and highly recommend this company. No regrets!

I thought I would have problems knitting with this highly textured wool. I didn't have any at all. Frogging out stitches to fix a row or two did take a little finessing, but it wasn't the hardest I have come across. One plus to the wool is that when my needles slipped out of about 15/20 stitches, it was really easy to pick them back up. They didn't run at all, they just sat there waiting for me to notice.

After washing and blocking, the sweater really softened up a lot. Don't get me wrong, you won't get this confused with Merino. It isn't that soft, but it doesn't feel like a relative to Brillo anymore. I have heard from others that each wash will continue to soften it up.

The colorwork with this yarn is really nice and even. I was very happy that it turned out as nice as it did. I am now on my second sweater and loving this yarn even more. It is also really easy to spit splice and so I have almost no yarn ends to weave in.

My First Icelandic Sweater

I used this to make an Icelandic sweater. I liked that it is true Icelandic wool. There were some breaks in the wool and the join was not well done.

Iceland Has it Right

By Kathy Bernett

About Me Artist, Enthusiast

Pros

  • Dyed Evenly
  • Good Weight
  • Hides Mistakes
  • Knits Quickly
  • Nice Texture

Cons

  • Sometimes Twist Unwinds

Best Uses

  • Felting
  • Hats
  • Sweaters

Comments about Lttlopi (Lite Lopi):

Lettlopi knits up to a very dense, light-weight fabric on US6 needles.

My only problem with it is that the yarn's twist sometimes relaxes and unwinds such that it's like knitting with raw roving. The yarn doesn't break at that point, but the untwisted section will turn out less smooth in appearance. This has not been a problem for my current project, but might not look as perfect as one might like for a dressier garment.

    Comments about Lttlopi (Lite Lopi):

A great yarn for cold, damp climates. Best used as outerwear as the fiber is a bit scratchy for some. The history of the yarn and it's associated designs is what drew me to the product. The company which produces it has a long interesting history.

Great work horse yarn for light, warm, durable sweaters for people who don't mind a little itch factor (although I understand soaking it in water with hair conditioner for 30 minutes can really help with that).

        Comments about Lttlopi (Lite Lopi):

I used the yarn to make fair isle knit in Icelandic tradition. Initially the yarn felt a bit coarse but after finishing it fluffed and is soft. It made a very warm sweater and is about worsted weight. The fiber are long so it felts easily but I wouldn't choose it for felting because the texture is so beautiful when knitted.
