I am using Captiva to knit PERN. Yes, the yarn is slippery, but I find a Ziplock bag takes care of that. Every once in awhile I take the time to open the bag and rewind whatever has come loose. It makes a big difference. I also bought another color and will be using it on another Berroco pattern. So many patterns, it's hard to choose

I would not recommend this yarn, in spite of the fact that I found it easy to work with ONCE it was in usable form, and the finished scarf I made was lovely. Simply because all of the 4 hanks I purchased were snarled rats nests... this is AFTER I unwound, untied and laid flat... the resulting large loop was a series of intertwined loops that were impossible to separate. It took as long to untangle this mess as to knit my item. This is a yarn for looks rather than feel. Not ok for baby items. It has beautiful stitch definition and a glossy textured look. Lovely colors. No splitting, easy to spot a mistake. What a shame. 5 star yarn in 0 star form. But I would not reward Berroco for this abominable presentation by buying again.

Captiva is Captivating

By Peggy

Pros

  • Knits Quickly
  • Machine Washable
  • Nice Texture

Cons

  • May Hurt The Hands
  • Need To Pay Attention To

Best Uses

  • Anything That Drapes
  • Scarves
  • Skirts

Comments about Berroco Captiva:

Bought this to make a skirt. I like the color and feel of the yarn and it has a nice drape that will show well in garments. You will need to stretch your hands when working with this (as with any cotton!) and you will need to pay attention to your gauge and how you form stitches, since this yarn is a bit unforgiving to those with sloppy stitches.

Great Shine

Pros

  • Good Weight
  • Nice Texture

Cons

  • Snags
  • Twists Up

Best Uses

    Comments about Berroco Captiva:

Great contrast of matte and shine. Choose stitch pattern carefully since yarn is more a flat tape with substance. Use a yarn bra since yarn springs off ball. (Center pull was not the solution.)

    Comments about Berroco Captiva:

This yarn was called for by a pattern I wished to try. From the beginning it was unruly, snarled repeatedly, slid of the needles, dropping stitches quickly down the ladder. Preparing it on a yarn winder was almost impossible--kept slipping down and off. Balling it by hand was a little better when done in small balls and placed in a zip-locked baggy. Also hard to maintain gauge. I've been knitting for over 7 decades snd this is undoubtedly the most difficult yarn I've ever used.

    Comments about Berroco Captiva:

I'm knitting a lovely summer sweater. It is a soft, silky, shimmery yarn which complements the pattern; however, since the yarn is finer than I'm used to, it's taking longer than I thought to complete the project.

    Comments about Berroco Captiva:

This yarn is stunning! I love how it knits up. It has crisp stitch definition and fabulous drape. The photos don't do it justice, as the silk gleams in direct sunlight. The only thing I don't like is how slippery the yarn is. I would recommend hand winding it into balls to avoid catastrophe.
