I used this yarn to make a pair of self-striping socks in a chevron pattern (to make those stripes zig-zag). This yarn was easy to work with, feels good on the feet, and machine washes (and dries) easily. No pilling or felting! I'd love to see more colors. I will definitely buy this yarn again for socks.

I'm very impressed with this yarn, I have to admit (after the unpleasant surprise with the expensive Japanese competitor). It is very evenly dyed, has a good old-fashioned feel of wool which appeals to my scandinavian sensibilities, and the color schemes are very much to my liking. With 52 stitches I can finish one sock within two days of commuting, so it really is a fast knit, isn't it? On the 'con' side, it does split if you're not paying attention, but overall I've found this to be a durable yarn, and certainly well worth it (I get easily three adult size pairs out of two skeins). Caution, though, a young child won't like the feel, it's a bit too coarse for that. Should be nice and warm for snow boots and ski trips to come!

A male co-worker asked for a pair of socks. We searched webs together and decided on this yarn since it had wool and was washable. I am disappointed with the coarseness of the yarn. I hope he gets similar results as the last reviewer that the socks get softer with washing. It was not enjoyable to knit with this yarn. I also had issues with the yarn splitting.

I've heard this yarn described or reviewed by others as "splitty" or "scratchy," and I didn't have that reaction. First off, the "splitty" probably refers to the slightly looser twist, which gives the yarn a remarkable springiness and stitch definition.

As for "scratchy," while it's true it doesn't have the acrylic-lingerie slither of, say, the newer On Your Toes with bamboo, it fulls and softens considerably in washing.

The texture I found off-putting at first, until I realized it had something to do with the thickness. This yarn runs 360 meters/100 grams, compared to, say, Regia 4-ply at 420m/100g. Thus the Kertzer OYT reminded me more of something like Patons Kroy--I wanted to work it with a C hook. But I stuck with a B hook and am glad I did: the resulting socks are very pleasing. The stitches have a fullness (thanks to the looser twist) that gives the crocheted fabric a wonderful dimensionality: it doesn't get "holey" with stretching and restores its shape. Nice surprises all around. I'm guessing the socks will continue to get softer with each washing (I do not machine dry socks ever).
