I bought this based on the popular positive reviews; what a mistake! It does pick up a little loft once dyed but it stays scratchy and fuzzy. The deepest saturation it took was still a foggy version of the intended hue. It is harsh to touch and was literally scraping through my skin as I was skeining it up. I can't sell this or products made from it - my clients wouldn't believe I'd present such a low-quality, unpleasant wool to them. Thoroughly disappointed, waste of money and now a waste of space in my studio.

Comments about Valley Yarns Franklin Natural Cones:

Really like how this yarn blooms after washing. Excellent for socks, lace, baby items, pretty much anything. Sometimes I hold it doubled for a thicker yarn.
We have a large family and ten grandchildren, so there's always a good use for a practical yarn with good yardage such as this.

Comments about Valley Yarns Franklin Natural Cones:

The new 'version' of this yarn is not the quality that I've become accustomed to from Franklin Natural yarns. I absolutely loved their old standard yarn but it's recently been replaced with a heavier and coarser yarn. It's not nearly as soft and is much heavier. I had to use bigger needles in order to get the recommended gauge and still does not give a nice fabric. The old saying of 'ya get what ya pay for' certainly applies now. Buyer be aware.

Comments about Valley Yarns Franklin Natural Cones:

Bought this yarn specifically with dying in mind. Wanted very specific colors in small amounts and didn't want to buy mini skeins in order to accomplish the look I was going for in a project. This yarn comes straight from the mill. No frills (which I love.) However, I could see that this may bother some people. The yarn is a bit scratchy, but after soaking in just water for roughly three minutes and left to dry, the yarn really showed its potential. Very lively with a high twist and bounce. Also, the yarn fluffed enough to lessen most of the scratchiness straight off of the cone. I did notice some slight "shedding" after much rough handling. The yarn stayed in tact, but had more of a halo than before. Overall, a great deal for a very solid yarn.
