I buy many cones of this each year for production weaving and make kitchen towels. My main complaint is that product quality is not consistent - some cones are quite slubby, on others, the thread is smooth. Also, this creates handsful of loom fluff and sheds a lot of lint in the dryer during finishing. This indicates that it is made with short fibers which are less durable over time. It is not the highest quality out there, but the price outweighs the other considerations. If I were making gifts I would use a higher quality, Swedish or other European-made cotlin.

I ordered this yarn for a weaving project. i bought 2 full pounds.

on the description of this yarn it noted a Sett, which in my experience, means that this yarn is good for weaving (because listing a sett means that it is suggesting how many ends per inch to weave at)

when i received this yarn it gave me nothing but trouble.
i expected cotton/linen to be a strong blend, very suitable for weaving
BUT, i was completely WRONG.

this yarn not only is VERY easily broken, but it is EXTREMELY LINTY.
when i was weaving there were not only about 20 broken warps throughout , but PILES (and i mean PILES) of lint collecting underneath the loom.
not to mention the lint that i literally pulled in wads out of my nose.

this yarn was really a let down, until i pulled it off the loom
the hand is really wonderful, soft yet still textured.

my only comment is that i was doing double cloth,
and so i think that ultimately the congestion of the threads per inch because of the structure of double weave also contributed to the breakage and amount of friction causing lint.

however, when recommending a sett which eludes to a good material for warps, i DO NOT expect to be able to just snap these threads with TWO FINGERS (which i was able to with this cotton linen)

please, weavers, AVOID THIS YARN.
order your cotton linen elsewhere, because i believe this brand also was just a lower quality than other cotton linens ive seen other weavers use.

Comments about Valley Yarns 8/2 Cotton Linen:

I love to weave dishtowels with this yarn. They are absorbent and the drape has a nice hand. Quality remains after continual use and machine washing. There is some shedding during the weaving process but not after wet finishing.

Comments about Valley Yarns 8/2 Cotton Linen:

I use this for kitchen towels and absolutely love it for it's absorbency and softness. I've never had any trouble with breakage as a warp. The feedback I get from customers is all about the absorbency. I've tried 50/50 blends and don't like the hard finish. This 60/40 is perfect.

Comments about Valley Yarns 8/2 Cotton Linen:

I use this cotton linen to make kitchen towels that I sell. They feel great when the towels are finished. There is a wide range of colors available which allow for much creativity. When weaving, threads tend to snap out of the knots from the continuous weaving that I do. Also I have tons of fabric all over my loom and studio that this yarn sheds. It's worth it though, I love the way it looks in the end.

I weave this yarn to make kitchen towels that are sold at a big store in NYC. I love the texture of the end product. Not always easy to weave but it's worth it . There are many beautiful colors available so I can weave the spring, summer and fall colors without a problem.

For a beginner at weaving this yarn worked very well. I don't recommend using such a fine yarn for a beginner but I did learn a lot while attempting my first towel. I am committed though and tried again using two strands at a time and I have a lovely soft and absorbant blue and white cotlin dish towel. Any trouble I had was user based. Cotlin turned into a fine feeling towel and I am using Cotlin on the loom again.
